If you had to create an all time NHL lineup, who would it be?
(2 defenseman, a LW,a RW, a C, and a goalie)
My picks are:
G- Patrick Roy
D- Nicklas Lidstrom, Bobby Orr
LW- Pavel Bure (in his prime he was amazing)
C- Wayne Gretzky
RW- Gordie Howe

Hmmm.
G- I think Brodeur has now passed Roy in my mind based on the incredible season he is having, Roy is certainly not "wrong".
D- I'd go with Orr and Borque. Borque had an incredible all-around game and routinely played 30 or even 40 minutes a night. Again, I don't think to say Lidstrom is "wrong".
C, RW- Agree, I'm sure you'll get a lot of support for Lemieux, which again I don't think is "wrong", but Gretzky was better.
LW - This is where we part company, I don't know where you are getting this. Bure was a one-dimensional player who had to score because he did NOTHING else. Furthermore, his career accomplishments were nowhere near the others we are talking about, not even in his "prime".
I would pick Messier, he wasn't primarily a Left Wing but he can play there for me. If you want a "real" Left Wing, I'd go with Bobby Hull. Bure I just don't get.

G - Roy
D - Orr and Harvey
C - Gretzky
W - Howe and Hull
Bure was brittle and did not have a long enough career to register on my radar. Lidstrom is over rated. He's never had to play on a mediocre team. And when there's no star goalie behind him his numbers pale.

No way My Lineup would be:
GOALIE: Martin Brodeur
DEFENSE: Bobby Orr and Scott Stevens( cuz u need a hitter)
LW: I agree with you, Pavel Bure
C: Wayne Gretzky
RW: Maurice Richard
And that would make your perfect lineup. Undefeated team!!!!
If u think Scott Stevens was a dumb choise, consider having a team that is so defenseless and a line that will always get smashed. Trust me, Stevens is the perfect man to help people like gretzky and richard

My all-time lineup would be:
G - Terry Sawchuk
D - Scott Stevens (Good call devils4history! Definitely need that physical presence.)
D - Paul Coffey (was thinking of either Orr or Lidstrom for the offensive-minded blueliner, but they pale in comparison to Coffey)
LW - Bobby Hull
C - Wayne Gretzky
RW - Mike Gartner (Why has nobody mentioned Gartner? 708 goals and oh yeah, he could really fly)

I think that your rankings are pretty accurate, but I think that Brodeur has surpassed Roy long-term and there are many LWs better than Bure, such as Hull and especially Alexander Ovechkin. But here are my choices:
Single-Season
LW-Bure
C-Gretzky
RW-Teemu Selanne
D-Orr, Pronger
G-Roy
All-Time
LW-Ovechkin
C-Gretzky
RW-Howe
D-Orr, Lidstrom
G-Brodeur
