Yes.
There are things that my husband and I are still learning about eachother. 26 years later!

Nonsense.
Let's keep going with the analogy of a book. Is it really reasonable to say that nobody ever reads a book twice? Of course not. I've read books that were so good that as soon as I had read the last page I turned to the first and read the whole thing over again.
A saying like this has much more to say about the 'reader' than the 'book'. What kind of a person is only interested in mystery and the unknown and scorns all that he does know? In the kindest possible terms, this is a person who is looking for something.
But is a person who is ALWAYS looking for something really seeking something outside themselves? It has been argued that if everyone in the world seems to be lacking, perhaps it's not everyone in the world... perhaps it's you.
Someone who is eternally unsatisfied is probably someone I don't need hanging around me. Someone who knows what they value and appreciates it when they find it IS someone I want to have around, especially if I have some of those qualities that are valued.
So your truism, rather than encouraging me to keep my last secret, encourages me to have absolutely none... I'll get rid of the damaged people and keep only the wise ones!

I don't think anyone can be known completely, for two reasons:
(1) We are complex enough that we never fully come to understand ourselves, and if we don't fully understand ourselves we cannot grant full understanding of ourselves to others.
(2) We are constantly changing as we think new thoughts, have new experiences, and learn new things. If we were "thrown on a shelf", it wouldn't matter, because we would soon cease to be as we were when we were thrown, and then the mystery would return.
People are inherently mysterious. I agree that it would probably be boring if we ever got to know all there is to know about each other, but due to our nature I don't see any risk of that ever actually happening to anyone.

I think a lot of that is our own sense of importance. If someone has a secret no one knows, but they tell us, we feel needed. Plus we enjoy the hunt of trying to figure out what it is that makes someone tick. Once we find out the mystery we don't always toss that person aside, because now there is a bond of the mystery. But that person doesn't go away. I think that anyone without a mystery isn't boring per say. We just can't fill our own ego with some sense of accomplishment.

I don't know if I agree with that, maybe not everyone knows everything about you. Everyone might have a piece of the puzzle of who you are and not let the others know what that piece is.
As to being discarded like a book well that is wrong just because someone knows everything about you doesn't make you un wanted. If you have been married so long that you know eveything about your partner and vise versa does not mean you want to discard that person.

I never considered that. But it's true. When people expose every part of their lives to anything breathing, they become boring. There are no mysteries to discover. The person lacks layers. It is the reason many marriages lose their luster.

I completely agree, but sometimes it is hard...atleast for me to not say everything..I feel like it's going to explode outta me...sometimes you just need to scream out to the world and say everything.
