NOTE: If you are self-employed, you can work as many hours as you want & probably make a hell of a lot more than minimum wage! Don't settle for some crappy job slicing onions in the back of a restaurant (unless you just love that sort of thing). There are plenty of jobs you could do w/o having a traditional employer (babysitting, lawn mowing, house cleaning, newpaper sales/routes, vending machines, phone sales, ebay, ....you get the point). Also, you can do MULTIPLE things, don't get hung up on "I have to earn x amt from 1 job." If you can make $35 babysitting on Friday night & $50/day selling newspapers in front of a grocery store & another $35/day during the week mowing a lawn after school each day, you will come out better than some crappy job at a burger joint. Here are some recommended reading/watching materials to give you some inspiration! I promise, none of it is over your head & all will give you inspiration & ideas to do more & be more than someone else's lackey. You sound like a sharp, hard-working kid, so I wish you all the great things for which I know you are destined!

with permission from your parents, you can work over 40 hours a week. they ususally have forms you can fill out that you have your parents sign. when school is not in session, this is not required i think.
also, taxes are withheld which you can't get back until you fill out tax returns after the year ends.
