Euthanasia is making a decision to end someone's suffering, and assisted suicide is the person themselves deciding to end their life, but due to their illness or limitations need someone else to help them or provide the means to do it.

Both are illegal in the United States, although Oregon I believe has some legislation on the books allowing physicians to prescribe lethal doses of medication to terminal patients (not sure of the logistics of the law).

Technology has allowed people to live way longer than "prime", the problem is that we have yet to recognize that being alive and having a life are totally different. No one should be forced to stay alive on slim, remote chance that there may be a cure for their suffering at an undefined time in the future.
Quality of life is far more precious than number of years --- the only people who seem to be against euthanasia and suicide are the people who aren't terminally ill and suffering.

Euthanasia is not legal in any US state, or most countries.
Euthanasia is where one person kills another, at the request of the person who is dying. Also called mercy killing.

Assisted suicide is legal in Oregon, and many European countries, but usually with specific limitations such as only being available to terminally ill patients.

Assisted suicide is different than euthanasia, because here the individual is performing the act which terminates their own life. All the doctor (or other person) does is provide the means. But the final action is still up to the first person. In Euthanasia, the other person performs the actual action which causes death.

Assisted suicide is suicide (killing self). Euthanasia is homicide (killing someone else).

As far as I know both are still illegal. Assisted suicide I can see. Once you start calling something euthanasia it sounds like you can kill people for being something that is unwanted. Like you euthanize animals in an over populated pound.

In the US both are illegal. Euthanasia is killing someone for mercy's sake due to terminal illness. Assisted suicide is the same thing but YOU get to do it with someone else's help.
