Is there a movie for The Hobbit book by J.R.R. Tolkien. Not the Lord of the Rings, because the Hobbit is the prelude to all of that. But is there a movie? This one would have Bilbo Baggins, Fili, Kili, Thorin...

New Line has plans to make one, so I understand.

However it seems that there is a dispute between the head of New Line and Peter Jackson, who directed the LOTR series of movies. Mr. Jackson is suing New Line because he believes that he was not paid all the monies due to him. The head of New Line, Robert Shaye, is so upset about this that he has said that he will not use Mr. Jackson to direct the Hobbit movie. And that Mr. Jackson will not make another movie with New Line as long as Mr. Shaye works there.

Peter Jackson not directing "The Hobbit" actually scares me, he is the only man i trust to do it right. While I understand how irrational this is, I don't care....

What I must say though is that the Hobbit is going to be difficult book to convert to a movie. The director and screen writers are going to have to be very good. If it is not properly interpreted, it will come off looking llike a silly children's story or a very dark comedy.

The movie has to capture the spirit and the essence of the book, especially difficult with Tolkien's writings. Jackson, Fran Walsh and their team pulled this off masterfully in LOTR, maybe that's why people seem concerned that he won't direct "The Hobbit".

A live action film version of The Hobbit is scheduled to be released in 2009. New Line Cinema has producing rights, while MGM retains worldwide distribution rights. Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, was slated to direct the film, but has bowed out due to pending litigation with New Line.

The only one I've ever seen is a Cartoon. I heard they are supposed to make "The Hobbit" but there is a dispute with the director of "Lord of the Rings" and they may use someone else. But as far as I know, the idea is in the works.

Yes it's an animated film with a really ugly version of Bilbo Baggins, it really sucks. But I heard a while ago that they were going to do a live action just like LOTR's.

At present there is no movie, however the same company that made the LOTR trilogy have purchased the rights to make a movie of it, so there will be one soon no doubt.
