Okay. Time Warner Cable is full of a bunch of jerks. Before we got their wireless router, our internet was working fine. When we got it ... it still was working fine. But after 3 weeks, the internet started acting weird till about a week later it just wouldn't work. We kept calling them to get a service guy over to our housebut they could never find the problem. Finally i bought my mom a Netgear Wireless router and myself a Wireless picker upper thingie. And what do you know? The internet works like a jewel! Who else hates the Cable Guy? Darn you Time Warner ... Darn You!!!

Hey dude, yeah, for anyone that reads this post, NEVER use the cable company's router/modem combo. Get their modem and spend $10 on a router you can pick yourself. There's two reasons:
1. They make the firmware, and let's just say, they're not very good at it, there's no advanced features like port forwarding or firewall management and a lot of companies even refuse to give you the password to log into it.
2. All cable modems have a certain response range. Typically you can see it by going to http://192.168.100.1/ . The motorola modems respond if the signal "Downstream Power Level" is between -18 and +20 (this is to avoid recieving damage from a bad incoming signal; if it's bad, it just drops it), the router combos respond if it's -9 to +8 which means that they require you to have the PERFECT cable line (this is not bandwidth, just power lvl, the closer to 0, the better). So where you'll have NO problems with a regular cable modem, a router combo will keep losing the signal and changing IPs.

They're a waste of time and money as installation charge is typically $100-$150 for wireless. It's not the company's fault, it's just how the hardware is manufactured and programmed. A lot of times it works great, but it's not worth the future headaches.
