I was going through my closet and I found a box filled with some PS1 games. I remember how much I enjoyed Suikoden 1 & 2 and how much better they were than the FF games at the time.

Congrats, as a Suikoden game lover, the answer is yes. You can play Suikoden 1 & 2 on your PS2 and yes you do need a PS1 memory card.

Suikoden 3 wasn't bad, Suikoden 4 wasn't great, and Suikoden 5 & Suikoden Tactics are sitting patiently in my "to play box".

All PS3s will play maximum human beings of PS1 video games. purely some PS3s play PS2 video games. specifically, the launch PS3s (20 GB middle & 60 GB middle) and the eighty GB equipment. All 3 of those have been discontinued over a 12 months and a nil.5 in the past. do no longer confuse the stated eighty GB equipment with those from maximum suitable purchase or Wal-Mart. those are thoroughly distinctive bundles from the PS2 properly suited one. The extra recent PS3s, 40 GB middle, eighty GB middle (at the instant on save cabinets) and a hundred and sixty GB equipment (additionally at the instant on save cabinets) do no longer play PS2 video games.

Yes you can play them, and no, you can use a ps2 memory card for them if you like, you don't need a ps1 one.

NOTE: I don't know what these other guys are talking about, I have plenty of ps1 saves on my ps2 memory card.

Another note: WTF? I was curious about this so I looked it up... everyone says you can't do it, but I got my old frogger saved on my ps2 memory, and some other game I forget the name of. Again, WTF? My ps2 is kind of dead, so I can't check if they work, but they ARE THERE!!! I think they worked before, but now I'm having doubts.

Yes you can play old games on a ps2. If you have an older ps2 console you might have trouble with some games loading as it can't read the disc. The system is backwards compatible though, I play old games on mine all the time.

Yes, you can play any Playstation game on a Playstation 2 (at least on mine). You will need a Playstation 1 memory card for the game, however. It will not save on a Playstation 2 memory card. . .believe me, I've tried :)
