If you've ever seen a rabbit run for it's life, (or looked at tracks left in the snow) you can see his back legs actually reach infront of his front legs. As his back legs push off, his front legs are already reaching way out in front to land. Their spine is really very long and can "curl" under to give him a longer reach. Pretty impressive to watch...

Flexible spine is the key. Cheetahs back legs come up past their shoulders when they run.. That's what makes them fast. Greyhounds are similar. When you see them run, they get this sudden kick where their whole body is flexing, not like most dogs that are more rigid.
