It usually happens in the Gulf of Mexico.
Western Florida has high chances of seeing it.
I don't know when it occurs or what part of the year or season.

Hi there,

It seems that the red tide is currently occuring on the South African West Coast.

i don`t know if you shall be able to see it though, as I am not familiar with the subject. I have included a newslink so that you may follow the story as it unfolds.

Hope it helps.

A red tide is an algal bloom caused by one of several means.

The first is pollution - the addition of algal nutrients (like phosphates) into the water, causing overgrowth..

Exceedingly warm temperatures can cause it also - the algae multiplies until all food is exausted.

The aftermath is not pretty, tho. It smells bad.

We have seen them in Chesapeake Bay. But you never know when.
