In answer to your question some people who are vegetarian do wear leather shoes.. I know people criticize them for not eating meat but wearing leather..what an idiotic reasoning ..if a person has taken a step towards bettering themselves you fault them because they have not done it 100 percent ... so to them I say what have you done at all? except complain and make excuses......Second for those who say they wear leather because they don't want stinky feet..I am not sure what type of foot problem they have but I am a vegan and have not worn or used leather in 25 years..Not bragging but I have great feet ...no smell...no problems and there are many on line vegan shoe sites..... people usually become vegan overtime with more knowledge there is more understanding ....so many vegetarians who wear leather today will not in 10 years ... for whatever that is worth ... Last I want to add that leather is NOT a by product (like waste ) from animal meat .....it is a major business on it's own and even if they didn't kill animals for food if people still wanted leather shoes etc it would continue to be a profitable industry ; it is estimated that about 1/2 a cows worth is in it's skin for leather products......

The vegetarians are doing their bit by not eating animals. Let the non-vegetarians do their bit now by not wearing leather shoes at least.
Vegetarians are different from Animal lovers. Neither should vegetarians tell the non-vegetarians what to eat nor should the non-vegetarians feel the vegetarians are for no rhyme or reason not eating non-vegetarian food.

It depends why they are vegetarian.

For example if its just for a healthier diet or because they don't like the taste- then why not wear leather?

If its about animal cruelty then no in my opinion they shouldn't wear leather, 'cos although they're not eating the animal they are still supporting the meat industry through paying for the leather..

Some people say 'well its OK- its just a by-product'.. But its not OK if you say you are vegetarian because you care about animal creulty..

Leather is expensive and takes an equal part in why that animal is being killed.

That's the difference between vegetarians and vegans. One will only restrict their food intake to accommodate their belief whereas the other takes matters much further and apart from food will not wear any article deriving from a living creature.I believe wool is an exception as the animal is not harmed. Its really a matter for the conscience of the individual to determine how far to take their beliefs.

Yes as they do not eat shoes. To me Vegetarians are hypocrites but I would not eat meat for health reasons & it is not needed. But nice pair of Italian leather shoes are definantly needed. Therefore can still be a veggie but just in respect of food.

It really depends on how zealous you are in being vegetarian. In the dictionary a vegetarian is classed as "One who practices vegetarianism" and "A herbivore." So following this, vegetarians do not EAT meat. It does not say anything about using anything made from meat, so it is the individual's call.

There is a great shop which my friend goes to in Brighton in the North Lanes which uses all veggie materials to make footwear.

depends why they are vegetarians in the 1st place..if its a health issue then why not!! but if they are vegetarians for the love of animals then it seems pointless to ruin it by wearing leathers :P

I'm a veggie and I wear leather shoes a) because I don't like smelly feet b) because I avoid meat only because I don't like the taste of it and c) if some poor cow has to die to feed a carnivore, then why waste what's left?
