You probably have bad piston rings or gaskets so you are burning oil. It will eventually ruin your engine. In the short term, if you have mandatory emissions testing where you live, your will undoubtably fail it next time. So, either get several hundred dollars worth of engine work, a new car, or move somewhere where they don't have emissions testing.

What color is the exhaust? If its blue, your piston rings are giving out, causing the oil to ignite and burn in the combustion chamber. Bad news if you let it go on further. If its black, you may be burning a lot of excess fuel, meaning a maladjusted carburator or the timing is off. Not so bad but needs a check s.a.p.

So i think of changing the alt became a waist of pennies. possibly in case you could upload if the motor vehicle actuatly turns over once you place the substantial in and attempt to start it.. or if each and every thing is ineffective?, whilst the engine wont start up- does the radio artwork nice?. If it became a gas pump i might think of it might turn over and slutter to existence with what's interior the carb/injection equipment
