Loss of innocence is a common theme because so much fiction is based on the crises people go through as part of growing up.

So, try "Bernice Bobs Her Hair" by F. Scott Fitzgerald (or almost anything else he wrote!). I like Bernice Bobs Her Hair because the loss of innocence makes the title character more able to become her own person.

I can think of one. James Joyce's "Araby." And maybe Hemingway's "The Light of the World," that short story with the prostitutes. Really garish.

"I Want to Know Why" by Sherwood Anderson and "The Man Who Was Almost a Man" by Richard Wright. Both really good, and with exactly that theme. :)
