I did some research because I quit caffeine altogether at first when I got pregnant. I gained alot of weight from juice and milk and caffeine free sodas. So, i researched it.
I found that a little is not bad. They said too much of anything can be bad on a fetus, but a couple cups of coffee a day wont hurt and actually decreases the chance of SIDS.
Imagine that?
So, I went back to drinking my Diet Mt. Dew. lol
I still drink a couple a day, and have maintained my weight since i got off so much juice. That stuff is rough on the middle.
Good for ya, but bad for the weight gain.
So, dont worry. As long as u havent ate caffeine pills and such, then u havent caused any harm.
And whenever u feel a decrease in movement, the doctors will tell u to drink a mt. dew and wait a few minutes to see if it wakes him up.
So, it cant be all bad.
Good luck and Congrats!!!!

Once a week chai lattes are probably okay--but your diet cokes need to go--not just because of the daily caffeine--one can is no biggee--but you could reduce it--But it's a DIET drink--that means--asparatame or some other WAY junky fako sugar substitute--no no no--Not a good idea--read up on some of the studies--and I'm not talking about the studies funded by the people who make those products and who say they are okay--It is totally artificial and NOt good for your baby--so I'd keep on with the Chai latte but defintely quit the diet coke drinking...switch to ginger ale or 7-up for awhile--you'll get the bit of carbonation and it won't be artifically sweetened...Good Luck...

Scientific studies show that no more than 2 cups of coffee a day or 3 cups of coke a day is fine..If u drink the coke only once a day and the chai tea only once a week your baby should be ok..Dont over exagerate that and try to consume more though as it could cause a low birth weight, fetal distress etc. Good Luck!

At this point caffeine isn't so bad for the baby (it isn't great either though) It is in the first 2 trimesters that it's the worst. My dr. told me that 1 caffenated beverage a day was fine. So if all you are having is 1 coke a day and 1 chai a week I think you are doing great.
Good luck!

If you are 37 weeks along that is technically considered "full term" and you have at most 3 to 5 weeks left. I think its waaaay too late to worry about the negative effects of caffiene and the other chemicals in diet soda, such as phosphoric acid and the artificial sweeteners, nutrasweet and splenda.
I personally wouldn't touch any of that stuff while pregnant because it certainly isn't good. Phosphoric acid weakens your bones, even an an adult, so it can't be good for a fetus.

The amount you drink is probably not bad at all. Consuming large amounts of caffeine (over 300 mg per day-an average cup of coffee has between 100-150 mg) can increase the risk of miscarriage or low birth weight. Caffeine also makes you go to the bathroom even more than you already do...

My understanding is that evidence shows that small amounts of caffiene is not bad for the baby. But there hasn't really been enough research on it. Most doctors limit caffiene intake to two small servings of coffee a day. A coke a day should not be a problem unless your doctor has told you to completely avoid caffiene. I would talk with your doctor first. You are so close to the home stretch. GOOD LUCK!

My obgyn told me that I can have up to 3 caffeine drinks a day without problems.
(I only drank one cup of coffee per day)...
I am the same as you...I will never give up caffeine.
I drank a cherry coke every day during my first and second trimester in addition to the coffee.

As long as your not taking in a lot of caffeine you should be fine. I know women that drank 2 mountain dews a day and still had a very healthy baby.

You have had very limited caffeine. You are not risking anything.
The risk involved comes with more than 300mgs per day several times a week.
The risk with that is that caffeine drinks are a diuretic and has no nuritional benefit and can disturb fetal sleep patterns, among a few other smaller things
