The term "Rock" is a very gray area, and it encompasses a lot a different musical influences from classical to jazz and everything in between. Sometimes rock music can fall into more than in category, with many different influences. It has become a very broad term.

Vincent, are you serious or are joking just to get a rise out of people.

Rock music is so broad you can't lump it all together. Yes, there is a lot of rock music that is horrible, but there is a lot that is very musically complex. Take for instance the genre dubbed "Art Rock" very intricate melodic lines and harmonic arrangments with heavy classical influence.

It takes time and exposure to a variety of styles.
A trained ear can distinguish the various influences.

You also need to understand that many artists & groups will change their style.
A good example is Paul Simon, when he moved from a folk-style to more of a world-music style with his 1986 album "Graceland".
More recently (I've been told) Avril Lavingne used to be a folk singer.

Rock must evolve and expand..as in all forms of music.
Right now, the buzz is that hiphop and rap are losing their luster, so look for a change in direction there.

A very easy question. ROCK is not music. No matter what anyone believes it is only un-musical sounds accompanied by a heavily accented beat. You are wasting your time listening to this trash because it is for the the very immature.
