Performance question - my car's computer is designed to stall the engine at 108 mph. How do I get around this? Is the answer in removing the speed sensors from the wheels rather than attempting to manipulate the main computer? Someone already told me to add/change the "chip" in the computer to a "hotter" one. How do I do this? I think my car has a GM - E-PROM computer.

1) The sensors at the wheels are for ABS and Traction Control exclusively
2) If you try to disconnect the V*ehicle S*peed S*ensor (VSS) the computer will lower the speed even more (Safety and "Limp-In" mode), and will cause the "Check Engine" light to illuminate.
3) If your car is 1995 model or older, you will need to replace the chip.
If it is 1996 or newer, you can re-program it to eliminate the speed limiter, REV limiter, add horsepower, calibrate for fuel economy, different tire sizes etc.
Both options are available from Hyper-Tech or SuperChips.

You want to look at a vendor like Super Chips to see if anything is made for your car. Tell them you only want the speed governor removed, otherwise they can/will program a chip with more agressive timing as well, which may give you more power but will require premium gas.

I wouldn't mess with the speed sensors at the wheels. They only work with the car's ABS/Traction systems to tell if each wheel is spinning at the speed it should be, relative to the other wheels. The car's computer would still know how fast you're going and you'd be way down on safety.

i own a repair shop and you have to remove the computer to change the chip in it but this is the way you cure that problem with it,removing the sensor on the wheels has nothing to do with the speed of it, those are for the brakes, just buy a performance chip for it ,and it comes with a good set of instructions to install it with, any performance shop will have one ,or can get it for you ,good luck i hope this helps.

theres a "speed cut-off" device that u can install like Apexi RSM or HKS SLD, yes you can remove the speed sensor from the meter cluster but you will get un acurate speed reading..
