Ok... I'm prolife and I detest the idea of abortion, but a woman needs to be able to prevent pregnancy! If women didn't have access to birth control, then abortions would go through the roof. It is the responsible thing to do when you are sexually active and do not want to become pregnant. That's the problem with Catholism...it says don't have sex before marriage(but ppl do and will) and don't use birth control and don't have abortions. Well ppl are going to have sex and they need a way to prevent pregnancy!!!!

It does affect the reproductive system by dramatically lowering the risk of breast and ovarian cancers. It's far from unethical.
Certainly no medication is 100% safe. Nor is anything else we do, from driving a car, to eating food, to breathing, to walking around. Risk is inherent in life. The pill, however, is well studied, and the risks and benefits quite well understood. This is why the pills prescribed now have much smaller quantities of hormones than the pills that were first developed, and are much less risky.
The pill has numerous benefits other than pregnancy prevention. It can treat medical conditions like polycystic ovarian disease, or endometriosis. It can shrink or reduce the risk of painful ovarian cysts, menstrual cramps and menstrual related anemia.
It would be unethical to deny young, healthy women the pill.

Whats more unethical...not taking the pill and having a child at 15 only to raise it off of the system and never be able to provide it with more than it "needs" or being on the pill and having a baby when you are ready and can give a child an actual life. I was on the pill for 2 years and it never caused a problem for me. Everyone has their own opinion and is totally free to say whatever they want...but this is one "mortal sin" I will never be against.

Oral Contraceptive Pills ( THE PILL)
IS ONE of the most important product given by the Allopathy to the mankind ( sorry Woman kind)
It has prevented millions of unwanted babies.
It has reduced the incidence of abortions legal or otherwise.
It has liberated the women of today , from the clutches of unwanted pregnancies, which many men used to induce by
refusing to use a condom and not taking "NO" as an answer for sex in billions of homes world wide.
The side effects have been blown out of proportion by many , mainly due to ignorance or prejudice.
It has been reported BY BMJ that taking pills for one year is as dangerous as smoking one cigarette in a year.

Birth control pills are FDA approved and have many advantages...
decreased menstrual blood loss
decreased menstrual cramps and pain
can be used by breast-feeding women immediately after delivery
an option for women who cannot use estrogen, such as those who are over 35 and still smoke
easily reversible
Something my doctor told me that caught my attention is that birth control actually reduces risk of ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer
Advantages:
reversible with quick return to fertility
improves symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis
beneficial effects on cholesterol (HDL and LDL)
decreases benign breast disease or breast cysts
Of course there are disadvantages... but my experiences and other friends experiences have been great!

I started the pill at 16, I didn't lose my virginity until 18, I have two children now and i'm 26. All girls/women who are sexually active should take the pill. Nobody wants an unplanned pregnancy!

Aside from moral issues, taking hormonal birth control before the first full term pregnancy CAN have serious effects on the health and on fertility. The risks of reproductive and breast cancers go way up for women who have never borne children. The pill is most certainly NOT 100% safe and the list of possible side-effects is astounding. Just b/c many women do not experience the risks does not mean they are not real.
Barrier methods are not w/o risks either. The risk of miscarriage has been shown to be increased if a couple used barrier methods of birth control prior to conceiving their first child. The woman's body can form antibodies to the father's sperm and subsequently an immune reaction to the baby if barrier methods and spermacides were used. THere is also an increased risk of birth defects to those babies conceive while the couple was using spermacides.
The only real safe method of child spacing is Natural Family Planning. A woman is only fertile for about 6-8 days a cycle. Why should she pump her body full of hormones which increase her risk of blood clots, stroke, infertility, heart attack, breast and reproductive cancers, etc everyday when she is only fertile for those few days. And asde from risks to the baby, barrier methods and spermacides have risks for the woman too (increased yeast infections, xenoestrogen exposure, allergic reactions, irritation, etc) and they are LESS effective than NFP too.
One more point about NFP...A woman who charts her fertility signs becomes aware of her body in many powerful way. She can see the wonder of her fertility. She can diagnose many health problems from seeing their influence on her cycle. She can choose to become pregnant w/o any waiting period (unlike that which is recommended for coming off hormonal birth control) or she can choose to avoid/postpone pregnancy. She can see if there are any issues which might affect her ability to conceive or carry a baby. It is a powerful tool for gyn health.
