Upgrade ram, to at least 1gb... that will speed up your puter, but, remember also, to run defrag and your antispyware software, as well as your anti-adware programs, regularly.
My laptop has 1gb of ram, no idea on video cause it's shared, and runs cable modem, I get 54mbps connections and sometimes THAT seems slow.
www.crucial.com has a System Scanner and it will tell you what type of ram you currently have, and will show you options to upgrade to 1gb.. of course, after you see what they suggest, you can go to your local puter supplier, ie, circuit city, or office depot, or any like that, and research prices and then get you some and either install it yourself, or have it installed.
Good luck.

I thought you meant old as in ancient, this notebook spec is on a par with my desktop and quite new with my old P2 notebook; any upgrade in this spec would not have any tangible benefit in loading from Internet, I even go as far as betting it just offers no benefit whatsoever contrary to what most post.
With respect to Internet speed, try wired connection versus wireless if that applies to you already.

RAM usualy helps a lot! PC speed effects internet speed quite a bit because your PC can't proccess the info it receives as fast. Remember, the internet is like being connected to and outer harddrive, exet much much bigger. And most times slower...Doesn't mater how new and fast your new hard drive is, it won't work at max speed if it computer doesn't work fast enough.

your processor has to handle the incoming data. You may get some benefit from more memory , but I would not expect a big improvement.
