Ok, assume he is serious...why don't YOU know him or yourself well enough to know if he is who YOU really want to have kids with and love. I feel very sorry for you if all you are looking for is someone who is going to make promises and hopefully not blow smoke up your nose.

God, if you can't tell then I guess you either don't know him or are a poor judge of character ?
Guess If I were in your shoes (painful) I would ask his family members and others to see if the guy scams. If he does, people know. But the fact that you would have to investigate him on the side is troublesome.
If you can't trust what he says then you have to find out if it's YOU or him that has the "problem"

Is he mature? Has he completed his education? Is he a hard worker? Is he saving for his future? Does he have goals for his future and is he working toward those goals? Does he share the same faith as you? Has he asked you to marry him? Have you discussed the seriousness of a lifetime commitment? Have you been together long enough to really know each other? If he's serious, he should have passed this little test with flying colors.

when you've been married for a couple of years, and are financially stable enough to be able to afford having a child.
