Simply put, the memory of WWI was still fresh in the minds of most people. The wounds were still fresh from both sides. For Germans, also their wounded pride. The Allies and the League of Nations were quite determined to keep the peace and find a peaceful resolution to make "The War to End All Wars" (WWI) just that. Unfortunately, the terms imposed on Germany were onerous and humiliating that it easily fed the fires of nationalism and revenge ultimately furthering the ambitions of diabolical geniuses in the likes of Hitler and the Nazis.

Why bother? Read Keynes' "The Economic Consequences of the Peace" instead. It described the real causes of WWII (rather than the crap political scientists keep coming up with to explain to others what they have no chance of understanding themselves) twenty years before it began.
