what i remember t1riel

is that year their bpen was a MESS and they were under alot of fire for that idiot advisor they have saying that closers were "overated, and actually unecessary", and their pen blew alot of games that year.. thats what I remember... they made it as far as they did IN SPITE of there pen... THATS my point. when they actually got a legitimate Closer in foulk, they beat my yankees and won the WS.. so whats YOUR point?

This Julio, Benitez stuff is all smoke and mirrors. This is Theo playing head games with all of his bullpen arms. Look - There is a competition on-going, but a clear-cut closer will emerge.

My money is on Craig Hansen finding his slider and going on to be a solid, sub 3.50 ERA type of closer. He will be good, He will be the closer.

Theo wants these guys to think he's out shopping for re-treds like Julio and Benitez to make them step it up, I have a feeling it'll work.

Hey - Nobody thought for a second that Jon Papelbon would be the closer in 2006, and what happened? A 0.92 ERA happened.. 2nd lowest EVER for a pitcher throwing more than 65 Innings.

The rotation is a lot more important than the closer. The Red Sox have a lot of depth in the bullpen with four possible setup pitchers and a lot of long relief. Generally a team does not need a lights out closer to make it to the world series, in fact since 2000, only two of the world series winning teams had a great closer at the start of the season who stayed great for the whole season (Red Sox: Foulke, Angels: Percival). Having said that, the fact that the red sox probably have the best rotation in the AL East makes up for the lack of a closer.

I hope not. My thought is that they'll pick somebody and try to stick with that person as long as possible, until the trading deadline, anyway.

I heard rumors of Armando Benitez, and I started to vomit. If they get him, hoist up the white flag.

What happened to them when they did the closer by committee? Simple. They made it to the ALCS and nearly won if it hadn't been Grady Little's mistake to leave Pedro in. What's your point?

It has to be a righty so right now its either Armando Benitez or Jorge Julio.

I do not worry about what the SOX do. They will self destruct after the break like they almost always do.
