I know that many thousands of SOVIET CITIZENS did serve in Hitler's armies. Especially many Ukrainians. They were known as the Russian Liberation Army. In fact when Hitler first invaded Russia many Russians suffering under the yolk of that other maniac Stalin, welcomed at first, the Germans as liberators. Many saw their opportunity to rid themselves of Communism. Many saw an opportunity to have their country independent of Russia. Unfortunatley this euphoria was not to last. After he had won many battles, won a lot of territory, pushed back the Soviet armies far into their own land and had quite a lot of people cheering he sent in the S.S. With such as these you don't need enemies. They will make tons of them for you. The S.S. moved in and started implementing Nazi ideology. Regarding all Slavs etc as inferior submen they began killing people and destroying villiages. This very quickly turned most of these against Hitler.

Now I did not know that 150,000 Jewish men actually fought for Hitler. I knew of the idea that some had. This is interesting . On one hand you had Hitler, who had already spoiled chances and opportunities in Russia then do the same with the Jews. But of course his manical ideas would have him do no less. If 150,000 Jews were prepared to fight for him, think of how many potentially could have had his ideas not hamstrung him so much. One hundred and fifty thousand was the equivilant of 10 divisions. Now he killed or has been said to have killed(he certainly killed a lot) six million Jews alone-along with many other. Think of it. The opportunity lost. Up to one hundred extra division(but at least a fair proportion of it)-enough to have given him the war. The second point is that not only did these naive Jews trust someone who, if they had have read his first book-MEIN KAMP- properly , would have relized the stupidity of what they were doing. At the end of it they would have recieved death or at least sterilization. And fighting with this false hope because they had ACCEPTANCE and didn't want to rock the boat - when millions of their own people were being exterminated-a fate that most likely waited for them-they were naive and brutally and immorally careless and apathetic about the situation.

So there you have it. A tyrannical lunatic that could have won the war but chose his nations destruction instead and a whole lot of fools who were actively working for their own destruction. One must ask two questions: One, where was Hitlers intelligence when called for to win the war for his ideals and his nation? Two, where were those 150,000 Jews, trained, equipped, armed and the equivilant of 10 divisions when there brethren were being exterminated in the death camps and even resisting in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising? It seems to me that it was a case of FOOLY leading STUPIDITY.

Yes but most of the Jews who served willingly did not actually think of themselves as being Jewish even if that was their family background. They considered themselves Germans.

Soviet citizens? If you mean Poles and Hungarians, they were not Soviets until later.

Great book to read THE NAZI DOCTORS. Survival often meant doing horrible things.
