I just don't get it. It seems the Justice Dept. is voluntarily releasing incredibly incriminating emails. Why?

Because of Mr. Fielding.

He is the new WH counsel who replaced the woefully incompetent Miers. He is a political survivor from the Nixon days (he was rumored to have bee Deep Throat).

He is obviously a Republican with intricate knowledge of the Beltway. He is widely known for his ability to defuse ticking time bombs and avert disaster. Its his reputation.

He authorized the release of the emails. Why? We can only guess...but mine is he couldn't hide them (subpeona). It also fits his history as having navigated Watergate, Contra scandal and others. He knows how to handle them and getting in front of bad news or incriminating news can be a good strategy.

One last thing, he does not have the reputation of being an idealogue. He will not tow the party line simply to do so. Again, thats his rep from what I know.

What I don't get is all the suspicion around these kinds of events over the past week. On one hand, we complain that the government is covering stuff up. On the other, we are complaining about them coming clean...America needs to make up her mind!

If they do it voluntarily, at least they will look like they are cooperating. if not they will be subpoenaed.
