Why do the courts waste our money and time when they/we know that the IDIOT is guilty as hell? The husband that just chopped up his wife in a million pieces and tossed her remains in the woods , all signs point to this guy,he's been caught with his pants down,THE WHOLE NINE YARDS! so why must we go through the "picking a jury, finding someone to represent him,etc..? I know it's the american way but WHY??????????????

You are correct that it is the American way. It might seem silly to go through all of that but it is a right that all Americans have. There are a lot of different possible circumstances. He could be mentally ill or manipulated by someone else to do this crime, etc etc.

Because it is the guy's constitutional rights. It is the state's burden to prove he is guilty and in order to do that, there has to be a trial.

The system is faulty, but it is a very good thing it is still in existance. This is just a hypothetical, but what if the guy you are speaking of happened to be a jogger or a hunter and he accidentally came upon the body? Is he guilty? Should he just automatically be thrown into prison? This is exactly why trials exist.

(I have no idea what the case is your speaking of. Many people forget that what is local news to them isn't necessarily national news every where else)

I worked five years as a criminal defense investigator and trial assistant. I'd get asked ALL the time why I chose to work on a criminals behalf. Everyone assumes that anyone who is charged with a crime is guilty, and that is NOT the case at all. I worked for those who were innocent. I worked for those who were getting railroaded by the system. You would NOT believe how many clients we worked with that were innocent. It's scary.

I have to say I also worked for those who were guilty. It is still their right to have a trial. It is still their right that they are treated with the same guidelines as everyone else. It is their right that prosecutors don't use them for election votes. It is their right that the evidence used against them is used in a manner that is professional and ethical.

I've spent a lot of time with burglars, murderers, and rapists. I sincerely believe even though they did terrible things, they still have to go through a legal process that is fair and just.

Until he confesses or is found guilty he is presumed innocent under US laws. Thus, the burden of proof rests on the prosecutor. This is the way it should be. Everyone charged with a crime, including you, has the SAME rights. If it were not that way we would be living in a country where the law could choose to jail persons they thought were guilty without proving it in court. Would you like to be that person? Bottom line is that the rights of everyone are protected.

Why can those 6 Imams sue Northwest Airlines and some of the reporting passengers when they were the ones acting like Al Qaeda idiots?

Because the process protects the innocent from being railroaded. We spend the extra on the guilty to ensure the innocent get a fair trial.

Because seeing the due process afforded to the guy who obviously did it makes me sleep better knowing that I'd get at least as much had they accused me of this crime.
