I have no problem logging into the VPN at public wi-fi hotspots, for instance the Marriott or Hilton. I can not log on to the VPN at my home wi-fi! I can connect if i plug in an ethernet cable from my home router (Linksys WRT54GS). Also, my computer connects fine to the internet over my home wi-fi, I can browse just fine until I log into the VPN, then nothing.
After hours on the phone with my company IT and with LinkSys, I still don't have an answer. We even tried opening every port and totally exposing myself. (If it matters its a Cisco client we use for VPN).
I really need to be able to connect to my VPN on my wi-fi! Please help!!!

Thanks so far...
My IT says there is no reason I can't connect. They say theyre not blocking any IP ranges, and they say that its totally fine to connect via wi-fi... How could i make my wifi IP address public? I know that some of the hotels I stay in say that it makes a public IP address so that you have increased VPN compatibility.

Well I am using that exact router here at home and have not had an issue with Citrix, MS, Linux, or Cisco VPNs. SO the next question might be, what wireless CARD/chipset are you using in your laptop? Sometimes the card itself can just not like what you are asking it to accomplish. It may just be a compatibiliy issue with the linksys. If you have different brand card to try plug it in and see what happens.

The private IP scheme you use on wi-fi is either

a. overlapping with your company's VPN IP
b. being blocked.

To check this:

1. Connect via a hotspot. Open a command window (assuming you are runing Windows), and type in

ipconfig /all

Write down the wi-fi IP address.

2. Go home and connect via your ethernet connection. Open a command window and run ipconfig /all again, noting the WIRED ethernet IP.

So far, you will have two IP ranges that you know work: The hotspot IP and the wired IP.

3. Now.......connect via your home wifi (disable the wired connection) and run ipconfig /all again, noting the wifi ethernet IP.

4. Be careful about this next step. most companies do not let you connect to a corporate VPN via wifi.

Ask your IT department if they block specific ranges of IP on the network. I suspect they are blocking or reserving the IP address you are using on your wifi.

I suspect that when you plug in via wired or at a hotspot, your IP changes to something the VPN can handle.

really need more data but it sounds like the software doesnt match or is out of date. can you borrow another adapter eg Belkin usb together with software cd? meanwhile check in "network connections" and see if properties look ok . When u get adaptor to work (usually ther'll be little gismo or 2 on the task bar) showing if it is seeking connexion; software usually has screens where you can see which networks are availabl, set paswords etc. am assuming your on XP or later if earlier youre on your own
