Hey, have fun and good luck! About the only things I believe you ought to look into before you jump ship are these:

Health insurance for yourself and family. Most conventional employers offer it and most small businesses or self-employed people don't have it.

Taxes: you're still responsible for your federal and state income taxes. Talk to an accountant about setting up a quarterly payment system because you won't have the taxes taken out of your paycheck any longer. I got caught on this one this year myself, and have to pay a bundle next month when I thought we'd get a refund.

It is a very lucrative business if you are willing to put in the time. Just like any small business it takes a while to build an established clientele, even for a Hotdog cart. I own a cart as do some of my friends and the best part about it is that it is a CASH business so no one really knows what you make but you. I just got started, but a friend of mine is Shreveport, LA makes 300,000 a year selling freaking hotdogs. Don't let anyone rain on your parade. You never get rich working for someone else. :)

well you have a secure job many people dont these days i think you would be foolish to do so.now if you enjoy this view it as a side line.my best friend does this in the summer months in michigan and makes a little extra money but it is not a job.all states vary so you will have to check that out yourself.good luck.

Upside... Money

Downside... It's neither a constant or reliable source of income.

Upside... Lot's of people.

Downside... Lot's of people. (Mostly white trash!)
