THE EXTREMELY PREVALENT AND HARMFUL MIS-USES OF LAWS AND RULES!
Laws, rules and written codes of conduct are supposed to exist for the betterment, well-being and protection of those who live under them. But there are many who use laws and rules to hurt others instead of helping them.
These are the children who are constantly tattling on other kids - NOT because they are concerned about exposing and righting genuine wrongs - but SOLELY to see them punished, and the adults who drive their local police departments crazy with trivial nuissance calls day in and day out.
Then there are still others who use laws and rules as an excuse for denying needed help and support to others. They just love it when they can find a law or rule - no matter how obscure or inappropriate - that allows them to say "NO" to someone.
Thirdly, there are also many who just don't THINK! They COULD do something for someone in need of help, but are afraid to "stick their necks out", so they hide behind laws, rules and written codes out of fear and insecurity.

DELIBERATE CRUELTY OF ANY SORT
Anything from deliberate inconsideration and thoughtlessness to intentional, hurtful cruelty - especially if children or animals are involved.

GREED
Greedy politicians, greedy landlords, in short, anyone who wants to take more without being willing to give more in return. (Wanting to move up to a higher exchange rate is not greed, because that implies a higher level of giving as well as a higher level of receiving, and I say "More power to you", if THAT is what you want.)
Corporate greed is the worst! It has taken huge bites out the quality of life for every human being exposed to its influence. It buys up patents and shelves ideas that could solve many of the problems that reduce the day-to-day quality of life for all of us. By keeping solutions to our everyday problems expensive and largely ineffective, it keeps emptying our pockets, giving us precious little in return and perpetuates negative situations that should have disappeared decades ago!

THE DEGRADATION OF THE ARTS
Art and music were once expressions of beauty whose purpose was to add some of that beauty to the lives of those it touched. Now, in a world gone crazy for mindless, trendy ugliness, beauty is an endangered species - already extinct in some areas.
Paintings that look like something you would find in the bottom of a garbage can that has not been cleaned in a year are praised by critics and fetch huge prices in galleries.
Vocalists scream, squall, howl or growl unintelligible lyrics which wins them awards and catapults them to great heights of fame and fortune, but those who genuinlne SING or produce something of real beauty are scorned, ignored or called "boring".

STUBBORN PROFESSIONAL JEALOUSY
When something is discovered that can be of genuine help in improving the quality of human life, it will be accepted and put into common practice ONLY if it fits society's accepted "ORTHODOX" guidlines. More effective treatments for deadly diseases and workable solutions to serious problems are shelved and surpressed than are released to those who desperately need them! While corporate greed (covered in an earlier parqagraph) accounts for much of it, professional jealousy within scientific and academic circles creates much of our needless cultural stagnation, too.
