well that depends on what you have and what your trying to amplify. 1st lets talk about the different amplifiers.
mono block (1 channel amplifiers) and 2 channel amplifiers are most commonly used but not limited to subwoofers. which are the larger speakers that create bass.
usually bridging a two channel amplifier into one channel for a mono signal going to woofers. then you have your 4 channel amps that are usued for typically highs and mids (full range type speakers that normally allow you to hear the actual music) but you can also use a 4 channel amp for more complex systems too like bridging 2 of the channels to run a desired subwoofer while using the other two channels in stereo to play full range speakers, and then you even have 5 and 6 channel amplifiers designed to run entire systems.
then you need to check your individual speakers to see how much power your amplifier needs to be, and impedance
which is the resistance of the speakers need to be checked to make sure you buy the prper amplifier for your needs.
then look at the headunit (radio) how many pairs of pre amp (rca) jacks does it have on the back. if using a factory radio you will need line out converters to convert the high level output of speaker wire to a low level input (rca's) andso on.... you should contact your local audio shop and they would be able to answer most if not all of your questions.

Car radios use class 'A' amplifiers, as the efficiency is of little concern there, due to the availability of a battery capable of sourcing large current. For portable radios, class 'AB' amplifiers are used - they are the best combination of linearity with the least power being spent. Batteries last longer for 'AB'.

It sounds to me like you basically want to get your FM stations in additional beneficial useful, no longer replace your total equipment. you may purchase an FM signal booster from maximum digital shops, yet, to be honest, they don't artwork all that tremendous. they look to strengthen the noise besides. best guess is to seek for a respectable head unit w/ a sturdy tuner section. you don't want an finished equipment, only a more beneficial useful tuner on your contemporary equipment. desire this helps.
