I'm curious if I may be inadvertantly offensive. My bf's mom is disabled. Once a week she asks me to pick up some food for her, usually its 5 or 6 bucks and I pay for it. Sometimes she asks me to get her some groceries. She has a comfortable amount of money, but so do I. Me and my boyfriend usually do things 50/50 (we treat each other or split things). She always offers to reimburse me for what I buy for her but I don't feel right taking the reimbursement because I'm doing it to help her out. But, it occurs to me that its possible I may be offending her but not accepting it. What would YOU do?

Accept the money graciously, afterall if you're driving it is your gas that is getting you there and these days with gas prices one almost has to take out a loan just to stop and get their car gassed up. If you want save the money up and get her some flowers as a gift.

I think she's proud that she's able to pay you. Sometimes when people are older or disabled, they feel that they've lost control in their lives. This is one control she can exercise, buy paying you for what you get.

If you don't want to accept it, politely reject. Reject twice if you need to. But if she insists on the third try, just accept it and thank her. After that point, it's not your problem because she wants you to have it. It's her way of saying thanks for helping her out.

Take the money. You may be insulting her for not taking it.
