Even though he broke the cardinal rule of baseball, it was only as a manger that it's been proven he bet on baseball. The Hall of Fame is there to celebrate a players accomplisjments on the field. Yes, Pete Rose belongs in the HOF. As does "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. He was acquitted in the Black Sox scandal and anyone with half a brain can look at his stats from that World Series and see that he had nothing to do with any fix.

The real Pistol Pete was a basketball player. Pete Rose was known as "Charlie Hustle" It appears he did that both on and off the field. Based on his on field performance this man must get into the Hall of Fame. If there are no openings take down the bust of Bud Selig he deserves to be in the Hall of Shame. Here is a link to Pistol Pete Maravitch. This guy was amazing

There are 4,130 reasons why Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame. He was a table setter for the Big Red Machine. Johnny Bench, George Foster, and Tony Perez needed someone to drive in with those big bats. Rose was often the man who crossed the plate for thos World Championship teams. The baseball powers that be lost focused on the game and are overly concerned now with the steroid epidemic that is inflicting the major league. So they are using Pete Rose as a scapegoat for all the corruption there is about bulking up. It's a crime to deny Rose the hall.

Lifetime ban -- after that yes. He's a cancer to baseball while he's alive. I find it hypocritical that no matter what Pete Rose does, people defend him and want him in the Hall but the same people want Barry Bonds kept out of the Hall. Compare to Rose, Barry is a saint.

Pete Rose has, deservedly so, his own shrine next to the Baseball Hall of Fame. His banishment from MLB has less to do with his gambling problems, and more to do with his lieing about haveing bet on MLB. Granted, he never bet on his team, but deceiveing the people by his denials was not only deceitful, but he called a lot of people liars by his denials. None-the-less, since he saved MLB in the late 70s from becoming a minor sport, and his hustle, and determination..., I think the suspension should now end.

There is no doubt that Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame based on his play. I think it will happen at some point, but he still has to be readmitted to baseball. That's going to be problematic for him, although I'm not really sure why. Selig should have taken care of this years ago.

Well, no. He was a great player and deserves credit for that, but no.

Complain all you want about it, though, betting on a baseball game is nowhere near as bad as cheating. So if it ever comes down to Rose vs. Mcgwire/Palmeiro/Bonds in the HOF, I say Rose all the way.

I say keep him out. His latest lie about betting on the Reds on every game seals it. There is clear evidence he bet on every game EXCEPT those pitched by Gullickson and Soto. Was that a tip, inadvertantly or not, to other gamblers? Did Rose juggle his lineups or use his best relievers when he had money on the game? No matter how well he played, compromising the integrity of the game is a serious offense to me. I'll take honest drunks and unsavory personalities into the HOF, but Pete Rose can stay out.

Pete Rose in stats is a sure fire HOF player. But his charecter suggests otherwise. The HOF wants a great player and man with good charecter. Pete Rose bet on baseball, which we know is horrible especially against his own team which influenced game decisions. Its a toss up in my mind. If he is in I will like it. If he won't go I would have no problem.

NO WAY!! The guy should be ashamed of himself. He has absolutely no character whatsoever! Oh, he's now claiming that he DID bet on his own team....but ONLY when he was a manager, not a player...RIIIIIIIIIGHT!! We just have to wait him out a little bit longer to find out the WHOLE truth. It seems every few years he admits to a little more and a little more...eventually, when it becomes clear he'll never be inducted, he'll admit he bet on his own team while a player too... He does and says whatever he can think of to better his chances. In the end he'll end up thinking if he REALLY comes clean....THEN they'll vote him in. What a loser. Hell, he shouldn't be allowed in based on that ridiculous haircut alone!!
