-3 ( 10 x - 3) + 10 ( 3x - 3 ) = x - 7

Distributive property of multiplication:
(-30x + 9) + (30x - 30) = x - 7

Simplify the left side:
-21 = x - 7

Adding seven to each side:
x = -14

==============================
Perimeter P = 2L + 2W
L = W + 2

P = 52 = 2W + 2(W + 2)
52 = 2W + 2w + 4
48 = 4W

W = 12
L = W+2 = 14

Hope that helps ;)

For your rectangle if the length is 2 more than the width, then you can represent the width by W and the length by 2 + W. So that means that W+W+(2+W) + (2 + W ) = 52 because you add the sides to get the perimeter. So when you solve you find the length is 14 and the width is 12.
4W + 4 = 52
4W = 48
W = 12

the other problem
distribute first
-30x + 9 + 30x - 30 = x - 7
-21= x - 7
x = -14.
plug it back in to check

-3 ( 10 x - 3) + 10 ( 3x - 3 ) = x - 7
-3(10x) - 3(-3) + 10(3x) + 10(-3) = x - 7
-30x + 9 + 30x - 30 = x - 7
-21 = x - 7
-21 + 7 = x
-14 = x

----------
width = x
length = 2 + x

Perimeter = 2(length) + 2(width)
52 = 2(2 + x) + 2(x)
52 = 2(2) + 2(x) + 2(x)
52 = 4 + 2x + 2x
52 = 4 + 4x
52 - 4 = 4x
48 = 4x
48/4 = x
12 = x

Width is 12, so length is (2 + 12) = 14.
