I attend school with someone who could be a 3rd round nfl draft pick this april as a rb however that person is thinking of going into the workforce as a biomed engineering and not entering the nfl draft. Do you think he should enter the nfl draft or no and why?

He should do whatever he thinks would be the most enjoyable. The career of an NFL RB is very short though, so he could easily be a rb and then go into engineering.

Ahhh, to be athletically gifted and intelligent. The life of an NFL running back is an arduous one. Heck, I played from 5th grade through high school, and football had ceased being fun by the time my senior year was over. I can only imagine what my opinion would have been after four additonal seasons at the college level.

I liked the way Tiki Barber put it when asked why he was retiring at the top of his game. He said, "Lay on the floor thirty times. Now get up. Do that every week for sixteen weeks for about ten years." His point was just that was not the most fun thing to do. Compound that with running at top speed and not just laying down but getting slammed down by 300 pounders. I can see where your friend might think that a career in biomed engineering is a suitable choice.

Enter the draft. If you don't make it and fizzle out, you can always go into biomed engineering later. I know a guy that is a Chiefs Hall of Famer, and he is now a successful engineer in Kansas City. I'm sure he used his football career as a jump start to his engineering career. He started out with money to get his business started and some good contacts in the city. Go for it!

No, I don't want to see guys enter the NFL just because they can make more money there. Why ruin your body when you could be doing such great work as biomed engineering. Besides look at Ricky Williams. Yeah he is that good, but doesn't give a crap about playing. We don't need more people like that.

Absolutely. If he gets drafted then great! He can always go be a biomed engineer later. I'd definitely go pro if I had the opportunity. He can sign a rookie contract, play it out, and then quit if he wanted. A million or two dollars couldnt hurt could it? Where do you go to school anyhow?

Well, if he is not passionate about it, he is making his choice...If he really has a chance to get drafted and make the team, I think I would go for it...but thats just me...

...and what exactly makes you sure he would get drafted?...Has he been approached/scouted by the NFL?
