does anyone know of some great campgrounds or state/national parks in the midwest or new england?

i live in ohio so it would be nice to go someplace close. i like all ranges of camping including primitive.

In Ohio and the lower great lakes, you'll find that state parks are more available than national parks. At least when it comes to camping. For a variety of camping options, try the US Forest Service.

Wayne Nat'l Forest is in southern Ohio, Marietta, Athens and Ironton are the key points of entry.

Maumee State Park (outside Toledo) has a modern campground on Lake Erie, and full services - beach, boats, etc.

Findley State Park outside Lorain is one of the most primitive State Parks for camping. It's still a great time.

The Hocking HIlls groups (nr Athens) are primitive to modern and offer a range of hiking and outdoor experiences, as they're blended with the national forest.

If you're near Indiana, the Hoosier Nat'l Forest offers a variety of experiences (Bedford, Bloomington access). It's again in the southern part of the state. Campgrounds are very modern, unless you find the 1's and 2's that dot the landscape on the backroads. These are very primitive.

Pennsylvania has the Allegheny Nat'l Forest (north, east of Erie. It's campgrounds are less developed and the area more rugged.

Kentucky (Land between the lakes - Boone NF) and Michigan (Hiawatha, Huron-Manistee, Ottawa) are at the far ends of those states and offer extensive variety and many primitive opportunties.
