I always hear and see women do whatever the stupid husband wants... clean, cook, etc. Why do they stay in such horrible situations?
I asked myself that same dang questionwhen I was with a condescending boyfriend who walked all over me?

Thank god I am not in that relationship anymore..
But, I mean women who are with abusive men who take advantage of them. I hope to God in time that they will finally get out of such relationships..

I don't think it's a woman's job to cook and clean. It should be both husband and wife. This question was intended for women who have an asshole husband that thinks he is god.

Sometimes, your spirit is just so weak. Then out of nowhere a man comes along who is like your prince charming. He makes you feel beautiful and loved and safe. At first....then he changes up on you. All you keep holding on to is how he USED to be and how if you hang in there just long enough, maybe just maybe you can change him back. In the meantime, you feel as though no one else will love you or want you. It is control and manipulation masked in "love." Ive been there done that!

I think it's a combination of socialization, self-confidence, and maturity that create unequal relationships. When you're young, girls and boys are pressured to get married. A lot of us get married before we really can think for ourselves very well, so it's easy to let whoever is the stronger personality take over. Later, when one of the partner's gets more confidence and matures a bit, they don't need an adult to make most of the decisions for them, and that's when the relationship can fall apart, unless they can figure out a way to make decisions more fairly. I've seen overpowering husbands more often, but I've also seen overpowering wives as well.

Because there are no female spirits in heaven, the difference between men and women is in their earth suites therefore women are in no way inferior to men. Women are men's equal spiritually and within the family - they are full partners. The exception is that, just like women have the role of bearing the children while pregnant, men have the role of being the spiritual head of their families. Thus any family member must 'bow down' or respect the rules of the house created and maintained by the spiritual head of that family - the dad, or husband. If you want to live in your Father's house, you must obey the house rules too. Obedience is the first form of love.

This is a tough question to answer. There are many different circumstances that lead to why a woman stays. Some women don't mind cooking, cleaning, and doing what their other half wants them to do. And then again some women can't stand it, and never open their mouths and say they can't stand it. I myself have been married for a very long time and don't mind doing all the "wifely"duties, but then again i have an amazing relationship with my husband. There are many reasons they stay, some make no sense and some make perfect sense. Honestly, I don't think it can be answered.

Sometimes it's impossible for a woman to leave her abusive husband especially if she is in a third world country where the jury is always male and considers abuse nothing more than a man disciplining his wife. Other times the wife doesn't work and doesn't have a family or friends who will take her in so it's impossible to leave. If they have children in most 3rd world countries the children are seen as the property of the husband and the government will not help the mother get custody of the children in the event of a divorce because they think that a woman is not capable of providing for the children like a man is. So they stay because they have no one to turn to for help and they know they won't get custody of their children if they leave. As for cooking and cleaning that's a woman's job and that's not abuse.

I think, to a degree, it stems from these women's desire to have a man in their lives regardless of the consequences. I've noticed a similar type of unsavory behavior by select women who allow their children from a previous marriage to be harshly disciplined by a new boyfriend or spouse.

As for myself, I have a very strong and confident personality and I would never have a wife or girlfriend that wasn't equally strong. In fact, some years ago, I began liking a girl that I worked with. She was a manager and, by all appearances at work, seemed to have a strong personality. I asked her out and was immediately turned off by the fact that she insisted on walking slightly behind me everywhere we went and meekly deferred to me on every decision.

Strong, intellectual and confident men want women who are their equal. Inferior men tend to look for women who are their lesser. I believe it is based to a large degree on their desire to build up their own self-esteem by tearing someone else down.

Actually it depends on what you are considering as an overpowering husband. I love to cook and tolerate cleaning. He helps out with the cleaning at times. He takes care of outside the house and I take care of inside. If he were bossing me around, that would be different.

It's called "Grooming."

In the beginning the man will hide these undesirable ways. He will present a false person to his "desire" (women, children, and even men).

Then he'll ask his 'desire' to do something wrong. It's a small wrong doing, but he has a plan 4 it. Soon, he'll get his desire to do something else he wants. These baby-steps lead the 'desire' to a point where they feel they can't turn back.

When the 'desire' try's to reach out to family & friends they'll get pulled back in by the baby-steps they've taken. Over time, the woman is like "Peter and the Wolf" in that they've cryed "Wolf" one too many times, and no body cares.

This forces the 'desire' more under the control by keeping them isolated. It's the isolation that keeps them there.

It is a joy and a privilage to cook for a man with whom you love and he loves you back. Especially when my cooking turns out great and we all enjoy it!!! So embarrising when the fire department has to come.

In the field of human relations we have to recognize that everybody have her (his) own space and time which should be respected, the rules of the game is that since the beginning this condition must be clear enough, nobody must violate the right to be happy or accept that others tramp what belongs only to you as a human right. In some way this feeling comes from a lack of self confidence, you have to adopt a positive attitude about your own values as human. That happens not only in the mentioned way, but only in reverse, in any case the principles of mutual respect must be clear and never let be violated.

Why do women (feminists especially), think being a caretaker of the home is demeaning?

Seriously, why do you have a problem with cleaning, cooking, or taking care of the children? Especially if the man happens to be the breadwinner in that relationship and is paying the rent, fixing the leaks, mowing the lawn, working on the car, and painting the house? Women have been caretakers for thousands of years since the caveman times when men were out being the hunters and gatherers. No one ever said the woman's role is less significant than the man's role -- only feminists said that. Taking care of the home while the man is out to provide are both equally important in maintaing a healthy, progressive family.

It's amazing how that I know how to cook, but I run into many ignorant women that don't know how to cook, and even go as far as to say that cooking means their man is "overpowering."

Now, a "horrible situation" is different. But cooking and cleaning is not a horrible situation. Men cook and clean too. It's just that women generally do it more if the man is hard at work bringing home most of the bacon.
