I don't think so. Kids are just being kids (rebellious), and grammar in general has lost a lot of its meaning over the centuries. Read Ezra Pounds, Machine Art and Other Writings. If you can get through his aphorisms and rants, he makes a pretty good case for it.

Especially since on YA they PROVIDE a spell check. I don't have the best grammar being a product of the Florida school systems, but it even scares me!

First of all, grammar has no correlation to intelligence whatsoever. Second of all, YES people UNFORTUNATELY are that bad at grammar. You have to understand that english is taught in grammar school and not much after. So blame the school system.
