swords are currently used in various middle eastern countries for ceremonial purposes. If you are thinking of "use" as combat situations, there are a few theatrical / reenactment groups around the world who fight with swords and full armor. In the US and Canada for example, there is ARMA - the Association for Renaissance Martial Arts ( http://www.thehaca.com/ . ) and there is la compagnie medievale ( http://compagniemedievale.com/ ) in Montreal Quebec . Most of these groups use hand forged medieval swords, such as those made by by Darksword Armory ( http://darksword-armory.com/ ) . In order to use a sword, it must be combat ready. This means that the blade must be made with a full tang (blade extends the entire length of the handle) and the blade must be Tempered. Decorative swords made with stainless steel are not appropriate for combat use and will break if used in combat (stainless steel is too rigid - no flexibility = the blade will break).

Hope this helps....

If you're asking about a country or nation that uses swords as their primary military weapon, of COURSE NOT. The first time they came up against men with guns they would get obliterated. You do understand that, right?

in china..
wu-shu is going to be an olympic sport this year.. you can see plenty of sword swinging... just like in crouching tiger hidden dragon.. different types of swords... some monks out in china or some small village out there probably still use swords for training/combat... they are too poor to buy guns.
