Let's say that abortion is made illegal ( I know, it will never happen, but let's just say...) How would it be enforced? What would be the cost? How would you raise the money? What other social programs would need to be created? Would you come up with a law that forbids the government in the doctor's office for everything BUT abortion? Or would we open the door to government playing doctor? How far do we go?

the present technolongy does not require a doctor to perform it...a woman can take pills at home, just like they used to before doctor's offices. How do you stop a woman from doing that? i am looking for something like 'register all pregnant women', or the likes...

doctor's have always fabricated records to allow for this procedure with rich women...they call it something else, like 'therapuetic aspiration'...

It was NOT illegal before Roe, only in a few states...and Roe made it so states could not override that existing right for women. i am not trying to change anyone's mind, just want to correct some misinformation. it was legal when the constitution was signed, and restrictions were placed on by...FEMINISTS! Yep, the people many blame for abortion

Although I am not comfortable with abortion, the simple answer to your question is it can't be enforced because women who want it will resort to the horrors of the past. Back alley abortions, self abortions with wire hangers. As I say, I'm no fan but I'm also a realist. Women found ways in the past and if need be, will find them in the future.
Also, if one believes in individual rights, one cannot ask the government to intrude in such a personal matter, whether you think it right or wrong, it is ultimately a personal matter.
Also, as a man, it frankly is not my place to tell a woman what to do with herself.

If Roe v Wade is overturned, which very well could happen given the current political and social climate in the land, the decision making process regarding abortion would revert to the individual states, as it was before 1973. Should that happen, each state would be able to criminalize abortion. Once the state law is changed it would become the responsibility of the police and the courts to enforce the law as written. Whether you think that would be a good or a bad thing depends on the individual and his or her notion of morality and individual rights. No matter which side of the issue you are on, the change to the law would be epic and would undoubtedly result in changes to the way we live our lives.

Based on your second posts its clear you are looking for a particular answer. Then why ask a question?
1. Penalize Doctors who perform them (financially and or remove their certification)
2. Outlaw the abortion pill (like any other illegal drug)
Basically treat it like any other illegal activity
See 1960's laws for states where abortion was illegal.
as a side note since people seem to forget even recent history...before Roe v Wade abortion was legal in the U.S just not in all states in particular Texas...which is where the case was initiated.

Heidi,
I too beleive it will be made illegal one day. Doctors would enforce the law just as they enforce certain medical laws now. The department of social services would become a huge lumbering behemoth of an agency. The problem would be the women who genuinely need an abortion, (rape, incest, mothers life in danger), I would not want a government agency making these decisions. God help us all if that day comes.

The only way to enforce it would be to have every women who is of child bearing years be tested. Because back alley doctors would be popping out of the woodwork. Dead babies with their umbilical cords still attached would be floating in the rivers, dumped in dumpsters, thrown in trash bins, found in toilets. This garbage happens now with legalized abortion. Give them an inch they will take a yard.
IF they do away with abortion then they need to enforce sterilization for those who don't support their children. This will prevent the ballooning of welfare and other programs our tax dollars go into.

if someone has the misfortune and need to make a abortion it is important to do it it preferable in a hospital or a very good clinic to avoid mothers dead also
when a study law there where many alternatives to have done legally like for example in case of rape or whit violence and many others
speak to a layer he possible can help you
the worst is not doing it because of reputation and all the consequences that come with it like not having father an so one
if it is completely impossible there are country s who allow it
don t make a mistake and try all the possibilities

I hate it when people even consider making abortion legal. Killing babies in their Mothers woumb,is going to be what destroys America. That old fart who started abortion, even agrees now, that it is a real baby that these money hungry doctors are killing have you ever wondered how many times God tried to send a cure for Cancer,or Aids, down here and some woman killed the Baby, that baby, could have saved your life. Why would anyone want to make murder legal,America has enough problems, with out murder being on our conscience. If people dont get back to basics, and begin to search the Bible for honest answers,we are all doomed. What if abortion had been legal when you was in your Mothers woumb? what if she had decieded that she would have an abortion where would you be today,, and how would your Mother be copeing and dealing with her guilt,of killing you,her baby?? Come on. Whats is wrong here. Why cant people reliaze that the God who created the universe, created our babies, created you ,and me? Why can people not see that God being who He is,knows more about everything than we do? He even numbered every hair on our heads, that tells me that he made me,and that Im very important to him,so if Im important to him, imagine how important those thousands of aborted babies were to him,and God help the doctor, and the woman who killed one, come judgement day there will be an accounting for all of this.
Sorry to burst so many bubbles out there, but truth is truth, and fact is fact.

I am not interested in prosecuting women for undergoing an abortion if it were illegal. I would want the physician held accountable for violating the applicable state law. Physicians do not have unfettered freedom to do anything they wish in the name of treatment. If abortion were illegal, physicians performing them should be prosecuted accordingly.

I differ from your view that abortion will never be illegal. It formerly was illegal but due to Roe v. Wade is now legal. A conservative Supreme Court could turn it around in a heartbeat.

what a great question. I can't wait to see the answers you get.
you are so right - abortion will never be made illegal in this country, and only an act of sedition against the United States Government, whether there is a Republican or a Democrat in the oval office will change it.
