Yes you can take portable electronics into Cuba for your personal use. Don't take porno.. that's illegal! And if you take a computer you may have to register it when you enter and show it when you leave.. they like to keep track of who has them (but people do take them.. and sometimes leave them for friends!). Don't take anything that can be used for communication such as walkie talkies.. THEY will be held at customs. A friend brought a set to keep in touch with his kid, but no way Jose! You can bring your cell phone though.. it's still expensive to call! And believe it or not.. you're not allowed to bring TOASTERS.. they actually have a whole list of rather strange things they don't want you to bring, and I think the toaster issue has something to do with electrical consumption. But again, I had a friend who brought one down for a Cuban buddy!
Oh.. and don't worry about that previous answer that said no cameras.. not true at all! Everyone takes them.. and in Havana there are even people who make their living providing 'photo ops'! Just don't try to take pictures of the police or military establishments :)

Extract from Cuba Website
This Caribbean island less than 100 miles from the southern coast of the United States is famous for it's cigars and rum. Visiting a cigar factory when you're there is definitely worth it as it will show you more than just how cigars are made, it will give you an insight as the the practical application of socialism, where everyone is equal, regardless of role or job. One thing to take note of when you're going to Cuba is that as of June 2003 DVD players (including computers with DVD drives) are not allowed in Cuba, if you bring one, it will be confiscated at the airport and returned to you when you are leaving.
You will be lucky if you see it again.

We did when we went in March 2006. We had no problems. We also brought 20 gameboys to give out to the children & had no issue with those either. When we got to customs there they just asked us to turn each one on. So personally we had no problems with game systems, our portable DVD player, movies or cell phones. My mother in law has gone to Varadero every year for the last 8 years & has not once had a problem.
