Mr Knowitall is on the right track. After his advice - could be the Idle Air Control Valve.

With different cars, different years - this thing is called a bunch of different names.

there is no such thing as idler or rpm sensor. it call an idle speed control valve. sometime you can clean it but 90 percent of the time,it need to be replace. different vehicles have different style. some cost 60.00 to 475.00 dollars

Before you start replacing parts thay may not be faulty, check around the engines intake manifold for vacuum leaks.

A small vacuum hose may have come off, or has broken.

Listen for a high pitched sucking noise around the engine while at idle.
