I've heard you need to have a nightly ritual before bed which tells your body that it's time to wind down. like brushing your teeth and washing your face.
I have the same problem a lot and I love Advil PM, I've taken tylenol pm but it seems to leave me groggy where the advil doesn't. I usually just take one and make sure you have 8 hours to sleep and it's just enought to take the edge off without any dangerous side effects. And it's non habit forming. Usually once I take it a couple of nights it gets my body back on track and I can fall asleep without it.
Good luck

I tried Ambien and it doesn't work for me so I know how you feel. Try taking a warm bath and drink some lavender tea with milk and no sugar. You might try some relaxation exercises such as self hypnosis and transcendental meditation. Go to the book store for more info.
Good luck and G-d bless !!

Melatonin can work it's OTC but it could take a couple of days. It depends on you. Also cut caffine after like 4pm. Drink hot de-caf tea before bed. Warm milk helps. Also try listening to some soft tones as you lie in bed.

I took a prescription sleeping pill, (the one with the butterfly in the commercial and starts with an L). I couldn't wake up for 3 days. I barely remember going to the bathroom. I did not eat.
I am scared to death of that drug. That was just only one pill!
Try a different one. Different drugs effect people differently.
Or you could ask your doc to prescribe you a muscle relaxer.
Find the one that works for you.

Prana Yoga... Or breath meditation.
It quiets the mind...
Instead of counting sheep. Do this: Imagine yourself laying in a field... you are watching white birds circling and flying over head. Then, in your minds eye, attribute and asign each one of your problems to each bird. Concentrate on really seeing them flying over your favorite landscape. Mountains, a park, the country... whatever...
Imagine the birds flying away from you toward the horizon watch them as they go, farther and farther away from you. When they cross over the point where you cant see them anymore.
Begin breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth with the tip of your tongue right behind the back of your two front teeth on each exhale making sure that when you inhale your stomach goes out and when you exhale it comes in. With three counts held between each exhale and inhale.
If this doesn't work...
Cut out caffeine and buy some over the counter Melatonin.
3 Mg should do it...

Since you stated that your mind keeps racing at night, have you talked to your doctor about Attention Deficit Disorder. ADD has a SEVERE impact on sleep cycles! (Just a thought!)

In drugs a "hypnotic" drug is one which makes human beings sleep. It would not hypnotise human beings. the two words come from hypnos the greek for sleep. the guy who invented the be conscious hypnosis (James Braid) theory it grow to be concerning to sleep, yet by employing the time he realised his mistake, the be conscious had taken root in conventional utilization and his attempt to alter to a extra precise term failed. Sorry i've got not got any journey with this drug.
