i have a d-link router and an internal modem, "conexant accessrunner". I can get access to the internet no probs. But cannot attach and find address for my router. The internal modem only has a telephone jack. My router has an ethernet cable. I do have an rj45 port on my pc which i have tried connecting to. But this doesn't work. What else do i need to start my wireless network?

1) Is your D-Link router a wireless router ; what model is it ?

2) A "wireless network" means having in two or more devices that communicate without wires. Is one of your existing devices already wireless and you want to enable the other device (PC or D-Link router) to be wireless ? Or, are you willing to buy a new wireless router and wireless adapter for you PC ?

3) You say "I can get access to the internet no probs" but then you say "I do have an rj45 port on my pc which i have tried connecting to. But this doesn't work". So, how are you currently connecting to the Internet if not via a wired (RJ45) connection to your D-Link router ?

I think that you may be connecting to the Internet using your internal modem which you mention is a "conexant accessrunner" (http://www.conexant.com/products/entry.jsp?id=114). "conexant accessrunner" is the chipset that the internal (PCI ?) modem uses. The Conexant website shows that AccessRunner is an ADSL modem which means that it connects to your phone company's ADSL service ... which is your path to the Internet. However, this would leave the D-Link router unnecessary / unused ... so, back to question 1 & 2.

You need a wireless card on your pc, the modem in the pc is for dial up connections, your D-Link router also has ethernet ports, get an ethernet cable to connect the two until you get the wireless card for your pc.
