I'm not sure why insects wouldn't count. They are definitely animals.
As mentioned, the largest animal in the world, and the largest animal known to have ever existed, is the blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) at over 100 feet long and 200 tons in weight.
The smallest animals, meaning multi-cellular animals, not protozoans, are the Rotifers and Tardigrades. These tiny little critters found in ponds and moist moss are less than 0.1 mm long, and are actually smaller than many protozoans.

I know the largest is the blue whale. (I think it's the Blue whale, but it's dfinitely a whale). As for the smallest, I have NO idea. Sorry.
