What is Vakalatmama ? It’s basically power of attorney you give to a lawyer or advocate or attorney whatever you call him to plead your case in a court of law or any adjudicating body. It is an agreement duly signed by you & your attorney to represent you. Now where you have to sign it on the top right corner or horizontally or just below it hardly maters what the court or adjudicating body is concerned that you are the real person who has signed it, knows the implications of such his/her representation for you & given this power of attorney to the person who is representing you, least later on you may not complaint to the court or the adjudicating body that you never allowed such a person to represent you & you were not aware of the implications for what ever this person did in your case. Hope you understand what I want to tell you, read it first & then put your signature where ever your Advocate ask you .

It does not seem right. That almost seems like signing a blank check.

Any agreement must have a date, specify its origin, document clearly the identification of the parties involved, the text of the agreement in a simple and understandable language that must be explained by the vakeel (lawyer). Consenting parties normally would sign at the end of the document with the identification of the signing date and place ( where the document is executed). All pages must be identified with page numbering ( sometime even as 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3 etc). Some places even a corner seal on top left hand corner is placed where all sheets are stapled together. This seal could be mage of a coloured paper or of a golden or silver coloured paper, that is glued on. Following is another example of a typical document requrments:

Absolutely wrong. There is a space provided under the body of the para narrating the terms of agreement between the advocate and the client.
