One estimate states that fraud and abuse cost Medicare and Medicaid about $33 billion each year. The government cannot run these programs efficiently, so why is there so much interest in going to Universal Healthcare?
We also see how the government runs the Veterns Administration with the current problems in the news. Is this really what everyone wants?
These articles show the idiots that got caught. How many never get caught? Don't you think universal healthcare will be the same?

anthonyinkc - I have not see you comment on this info. You said in another question that these programs where so efficient. Thus this question is really aimed at your last answer.

Medicaid is not run by the federal govt. It is run by state govts. I am a democrat, but am against universal health care, as it would be just another entitlement program that we could not pay for. We need to address the abuse in the medical field before considering another entitlement program. FYI, Medicare Part D, which gave presription drugs to the elderly, was one of the worst ideas ever and will be bankrupt in ten years under the current system.

There is quite a large very ignorant population that seems think this will be free to them. They think that nothing will change in their health care. They do not understand that doctors will not be doctors if it takes them a whole lifetime to repay their school loans, insurance companies will still be charging astronomical premium rates to doctors, unless of course it is like the military and you cannot sue the doctors. This of course will kill the legal profession and people like John Edwards will go broke. Government employees cannot be fired so if they do a bad or sloppy job so what? The reasons against the government being involved are way too many to list.

The Federal Government should get out of all health care. Grants for research, immunization, there's a few programs they can run, but they've proved every welfare program they manage is a disaster. Universal health care. Liberals like it because it makes them sound compassionate, caring, or perhaps they want the government to offer it so they can spend their money on....

This is exactly why many things are best suited to be desided and taken into action by the people themselves. Who knows what is better for someone, the government or the person themself? We are all capable of insuring ourselves, just some choose to not to. They would rather spend $80+ dollars on cable TV, $200+ on going out to eat a month, spending $20+ a crack for going out to a movie, etc. We all have plenty of money to take care of ourselves, if you don't then your spending too much on luxuries, need to work more, or need to get a better job.
One of the main characteristics of adulthood is personal responcibilty. Most people need to stop being children and grow up.

The fact that the government is not an effective or efficient manager of business is not a reason to back away from a program that would ensure the health of America. It is an excellent example of why it is so necessary to outsource those functions to individuals who KNOW HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS! Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater!
If we follow your suggestions, America suffers because an inept government is in charge...

The Feds have trouble providing mediocre and poor service to a few thousand vets at Walter Reid. If the government can't give decent care to them, then providing it for 300 million Americans+ 14 million illegals will be a total disaster.

Yes of course and there is never fraud in the private sector. Just look at the Enron, Worldcom and Health South stories. There are always greedy people trying to steal in all sectors.

Good question with good links! The word "government" seems to be almost synonymous with "fraud and abuse." Why shoud we think government-run health care would be any different?

The biggest mistake Bush has made, next to the immigration issue, was signing on to this false health care notion!
It hasn't worked anywhere else just like all socialistic programs have never worked.
When are we going to say enough!
