Because God made it that way, and if the earth was not round, but flat (I don't mean exactly flat, but just so there's edges), then we could fall off :)

The earth is NOT round it is oval but it looks round.
The earth is a little wider in the equator than in the poles.

The Earth is not exactly round but sort of. Because of gravitational force and after the big bang the big portions of mass starting colliding together due to gravity. Gravity pulled the pieces together, pressure and heat differentiated the layers and rotation around its axis created the wider equatorial shape.

The earth is more the shape of a pear than round. Its because of the physics of matter cooling in space.

because if it wasnt then the parts of the earth that stuck out more or something would pull the whole gravitaional system we have going on here out of wack. thats why its spherical. and think of the high altitued we'd have if there were one thing sticking p out of the earth, it wold be dangerouse. And as for a technicality ots not perfectly round, it does have mountians bt the pictures from space cant capture thet

A spheracle shape is the lowest energy state for a mass that has come together because of gravity. It's the way nature works. It's actual shape is an oblate spheroid; it's just a little thicker at the equator than at the higher latitudes.

Because of gravity located at the center of the planet pulling everything equally to it thus a spherical shape. Plus if it was square we would fall off at the edges.

When the Earth was formed, it was a liquid drop of molten rock.
The surface tension of the liquid kept the surface of the Earth equidistant from the core all around. Thus, it's a sphere.
