I have been trying to conceive for a while. I went to my doctor and he diagnosed me with PCOS and said that it is still possible for me to become pregnant. I am starting to feel very hopeless about it. Do any of you have PCOS and have you become pregnant? What alternative methods did you use?

I have PCOS. Found out last year - I went of the pill to try to get pregnant, and after 3 months I still hadn't had my period, so I went to the doctor. She did blood tests and diagnosed me. She also gave me provera to start my period and clomid to ovulate. I actually got pregnant the first month, but I had an early miscarriage (miscarriages are quite common, PCOS might make them more so, but I've heard conflicting things about that). Now we're trying again.

You can definitely still get pregnant. Just yesterday I did a search on FertilityFriend.com (you can see thousands of BBT charts there) just for charts where the person has PCOS and got pregnant - found hundreds of charts! So don't give up. It will happen (for both of us)!

I have PCOS....and I am also trying to conceive. I have been trying for about 6 months...not long so I am hopeful. However, like you the doctor told me I had PCOS....but that it was still possible to conceive but it might take a little longer and I might need a little bit of help. After many blood tests and glucose test and an HSG test to test my tubes...I was finally prescribed with Metformin. This is to help regulate my cycle and hopefully get me ovulating. I have been takin this med for about a month. I don't think I ovulated/conceived this month but I am hoping that maybe in the next few months.
I will keep u informed of my progress is you like. (see email address) I would ask your doctor about this medicine. He might also consider putting you on Clomid. It just depends on the extensity of your PCOS. The only thing I am apparently having trouble with is ovulating. I am not overweight so even if a person is teeny they can still have this syndrome. (I learned that the hard way - denial almost worked :) )
BEST of luck to you and LOTSSSS of baby dust!!!!

My sister has PCOS, she was diagnosed after trying to conceive for 4 years. She went to an endocrinologist who put her on glucophage and got pregnant 3 months later. She had also lost about 50 pounds too before she started the medicine.

After reading the next person's answer. I just wanted to let you know, that my sister did the south beach diet to lose her weight. So who knows, maybe it can work. :)

I don't have this but I wanted to tell you about some interesting info I read. I am following the South Beach Diet and there is a section in the book regarding a woman who had this disease. She was also overweight, I believe, and her periods were very irregular. She went on this diet, lost weight, and her periods became regular. She then conceived a few months later. It is worth some investigating on your part. They say diet and weight sometimes have a lot to do with irregular periods. Best of luck to you.
