If you don't know how to open it and you don't know what it is - best to leave it alone and call it "garbage".

If you have a specific file name and professional reasons for needing to open the file - give more information.

You should be very careful opening email attachments. If you do not know the sender and aren't expecting anything - view it with suspicion.

u have not provided enough information - I need exact names and details to provide sufficient help. In the first place, what do you mean by MSDOS file ? is the name of the file MSDOS ? U must be precise when asking.

But guessing what it could be from what you have provided, it looks like a virus. do not open anything if u r unsure.

Normally all MSDOS files are opened by Windows softwares as well like .txt with notepad and .wk1 with excel.

If you have recieved a .pif file, it most certainly is a virus. PIF files were used in older versions of window to keep information about excutable file, delete such mails immediately.

Be cautious while opening files in mail. especially if they are of some unknown type like .pif/.bhx.

you can know more about extensions at site below

Open the file or click start->Run->cmd->o.k. and go to the directory by using this command c:\>cd "folder-path-name" & press enter. Then write the file name and press enter.

To handle DOS-COMMAND, type help & press enter. It gives you a almost full list of dos-command on the screen.

I really think that it is a virus as well. If you received it from someone which is unknown to you the best that you do would be delete it. Otherwise you might check to see if it has any virus as well.

its probably a program of some sort. do not open it unless you are absolutely sure you can trust it's source. programs attached to e-mails are often viruses.
