We live in a world with a huge population of skeptic people and perhaps people want to prove competince to themselfs or to another in order to get a good paying job that requires a certain peice of paper called a degree or certificate. or simply see it as a required peice of paper that they need to get out of the way to achive something.

but i agree that it is a journey for learning.

Actually most people see education as a destination in the work force. Our degrees are almost all geared towards jobs in the work place.

The Certificate is nothing more than proof that you are ready for the job.

Take care,

Mostly because our educational system overemphasizes "training" and deemphasizes learning as a process.

Stop and think about all the rhetoric--one example (you've heard this one a thousand times): "You've got to go to college so you can get a good job." It's good advice--as far as it goes, its pretty accurate. But people are taught--almost from kindergarten--to view education as no more than job training.

So--the answer to your question is that people regard education as a destination because thats what they've been taught.

Years ago, people used to. This was big in the 1970's. And then college became not just a social place for the rich elite to hang out, but the means to obtain skills for employment. Depends on your disposible income and social class. I'd like to think of it as both (hence, the numerous liberal arts electives we all have to take that have NOTHING to do with your major!). I wish in college I would have taken more challenging classes--ie, math and sceince--then focused on only the ones I knew would give me a high GPA. Employers care more about skills then your stupid GPA.

unfortunately education is no longer what it once was. now it's a business! you do learn, but nothing beats learning through life and experience, and this shows and is put into practice, but the diploma or certificate is a visual requirement.

I know what you are saying...there are people in some of my classes that I am taking that only care about getting the 3 points.

I love to learn...and this aggravates me...

Because most people are laboring under the delusion that when they get their degree, they will have completed their education.

Once you graduate - thats when your real education begins.

People complain about not being able to find work when they get out of school - well duh!! You don't f'ing know how to do anything!!
