Wow, I can empathize with you... I am almost sure all or most of the women here can as well.....
I know that you must be so afraid of that weight gain and the trials of taking it back off after the birth.... but? it is for the baby that all of us say no weight loss is safe or "good"
believe me, if there was, someone would have broadcast that across the world by now... and made a lot off it....
I can offer some knowledge from personal experience on both why the weight loss is not good... and how to keep from gaining excessively and/or improving healthy choices? if you would like....
well... since this is my answer I guess I should just type it... and you can read it and decide if you want to read the rest? ;) lol
first on reasons weight loss, effective ones or otherwise are not good...
the first trimester is primarily dedicated to that little tiny being growing organs, development of brain, which is ongoing throughout the pregnancy.... your body reserves little or non during this time.... every bit of the calorie intake that is required? IS needed...... baby is in need of the minerals and vitamins to build the bones, tissue, organs, skin... all in a healthy manner.... which is why we are always stressed to that every calorie should be of right kind....what I mean is in the proper amounts... of proteins, breads, dairy, veggies......
second trimester does not mean we can slack... it is the time of steady growth, development continues on all levels but your body does begin to store some of the long term vitamins/minerals and also some energy/fat for use later, and though we all tend to balk at the idea of intentionally allowing our bodies to store it as we watch it gather/deposit on hips, face, chest and belly ok... bottom too.... yuck... it is key and vital for your use and baby's in third tri and shortly after birth.....
third trimester is the worst time to slack on the calorie, vitamins and minerals.... it is the time baby gains the most... last key organs, including the brain, lungs and heart finish developing..... those are developing very rapidly and to deprive yourself is actually depriving the baby......
now the reasoning.... I thought 16 years ago, when I was pregnant the first time that my body would give to baby first.... makes sense right... cause you would... your body must...... ! wrong...baby comes last... we are wired the same as any living organism...... survival to self comes first.... so, your body provides first for it, then for baby.....
the experts have proven over the years you do not need to gain 25-30 like they taught even 16years ago..... now it is 15 to 25... 25 is optimum due to the amount that needs to be readily available for baby, water, storage.... and your useage.... but, 15 is just fine.... it is also something that your obgyn/midwife might be lax enough on that you could gain less than that.... I do know of a few friends who only "had" to gain ten pounds...... due to their size, for health reasons.....
now... I am no expert I have to say... but I have struggled with my weight for various reasons since I was a teen....I was heavy before I hit sixteen.... sixteen it dropped and all I can say is at that time I was just a stupid teen who thought being 5'6" and 125 was the end of the world... who was dumb enough to think going from size zero to three was the end of my social life... please? understand.. I had no social life.. I had friends in every "click" I was not a part of any.... I love star trek and sci-fi... I am a comic geek... who used to create my own computer programs.... I was a knock out drop dead gorgeous girl who thought she was plain jane ugly.... no.. really.... eh.. life goes on; I point it out so you have an idea of the person giving you answers/unsolicited advise.....
my thyroid has been trying to quit since I was about 17yr... I have to have the tests every six months...
my first pregnancy I developed preeclampsia (four pregnancies I had this issue) 1st time I gained 70plus pounds in two weeks time.... yes.. I know.... it made me cry too.... but? that would have been deifficult enough without the rest.....
I also went into premature labor so was put on bedrest and given a medicine that effectively halts progress of labor unfortunately doctors do not tell you (unless you ask after the fact... like I did) it slows or stops your metabolism.... so at 21 my dr told me I had the metabolism of a fifty-five yr old.... I went looking to find what that meant...
so I had gained my thirty, over did it by five and then with the preeclampsia? I started at 120... I ended at 226.... it took three years and many nutrion plans, diet attempts... I did Suzanne Powters workout diet too even.... teabo? yep..... I finally threw it out the window..... went back to basics from school... and hired a private nutrionist.... I neede to increase metabolism... decrease fatt/storage/ and whatever else... and the fact that I love chocolate, pizza, burgers, hotdogs.... sigh..... fat, greasy... hey?! I grew up in Germany for part of my childhood...lol....
here is what I did, do for any given day for food.....
morning either;
water (two glasses)
coffe (two cups..lol... so I am still a junky ;>)
fruits and veggies... raw... I hated it at first... then found how good it made me feel as much as I want to eat of it? within reason.... I do... I really hate most fruit so I stick with a banana, half apple (allergic) orange stalk of celery, ten baby carrots some radishes...
6-8 oz lowfat strawberry yogurt (I buy the big tubs)
afterwards I go for a walk short fifteen to twenty minutes.. brisk though
snack
I have wheat toast (whole grain/multi... look at fiber content) with a little peanut butter
glass of water and one of milk
cup of rasberry tea I sip on throughout morning
lunch
same as breakfast plus
hard boiled egg or
peanut butter on my celery, with raisins.... ant on a log! lol
midday snack
I have whatever I want really... healthy though... and I usually try and get whatever nutrients I am missing after deciding what dinner will be....
if it is not "on the go" popcorn might be the snack
on the go might be pear halves
water I keep the glass filled
another cup of tea earl grey
dinner
fish/chicken grilled
yellow squash, zuchinni, and portabella mushrooms grilled
spinach or other leafy dark green steamed with butter....
with a little butter
rice (or any other side of the nature)
salad
go walking for about thirty minutes, not brisk really but this one up into hilly areas
I also do my working out at this time.... the pregnancy ones for you now.. after? toning, aerobic... whatever... I do it while watching tv.. might not be what is "best" but mine lasts longer cause I am not counting as much or paying close attention to the clock to end it... I am engrossed in a show..... on the treadmill is best.. with five pound weights for arms... and part time with the ones on ankles
late night snack
ice cream, homemade milk shake..... pudding or jello
pregnant? I could not stomach eating, chewing... or the fruits/veggies... so to keep it as close to the natural (healthiest) I would take fruits, milk and yogurt (vanilla) mix it... blend it... healthy smoothie.... that was my breakfast, lunch and at times if I could not eat anything else? dinner too... I also drank v-8s still do..... and kept hardboiled eggs.. celery with peanut butter became another staple.... and I would do my best to stomach eating at least one salad daily...
I gained 15 1/2 pounds during pregnancy btw.. and I did indulge in my chocolate desires... and pizza at toward the end.... lol....
I kept a chart at the beginning while I got used to the calories I "had" to have.... for one week and then at the start of each trimester... to double check calorie vs vitamins/minerals to make sure I was on track.... and made slight changes if needed....
something like this fit to you by you? is all you really need.... unless your dr has said otherwise starting any form of exercise now slowly is fine.... eating like this? and vitamin? is good, not too many calories everything you need to stay healthy and build another body..... the baby I mean
and if there really is any weight to "lose" this would do it.... without depriving you, your baby or your health.... if you find you need more breads? I get that too full yucky tired feeling if I have more than two or three.. which is why I increase my veggies and take a v-8 to boot.... for the complex carbs, b's etc..... energy.... and protein is to me ultra important for the muscle building... fish once weekly for brain... baby's too.... dairy for bones, skin, hair and all.... dark greens... iron, minerals, vitamins is the folic in that too? can't really remember if that is the big reason right now....
anyway
I have probably put everyone out there to sleep.. ummm or they thumbs downed me and moved on a long time ago?
just wanted to give you as thorough an answer, as helpful as possible... I know for me at least I get frustated if I am faced with something new and can't have at least part of the reasoning, info in front of me?
sorry if I annoyed, frustrated, upset, bored anyone
thank you to those who took the time to read this.. I know.. I talk too much
I hope i have been of assistance
good luck
if this does help and you would like any other questions answered, assistance, advise.. feel free to email via the link (email elusive_001) in my profile
thanks again for reading... :)

You are not supposed to lose weight while you are pregnant. If you mean you want to control your weight, there are ways to do that. I was overweight when I became pregnant. If that is your case, I can tell you what the dr. told me. I was told not to gain more than 15 lbs. The dr. told me to eat healthy. He said only have one fruit a day and eat the rest in vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, and dairy. Concentrate on eating things to help the baby grow. Avoid junkfood and caffeine. I couldn't eat chicken at all while I was pregnant it just made me sick. I concentrated on lean cuts of beef and pork. Also fish. I stuck to the 15 lbs. and I had a healthy 9 lb. baby. Good luck.

You shouldn't be losing weight while you are pregnant, unless you have talked to your OB first. The only person I know that has lost weight while being pregnant was a co-worker of mine. She was very large to begin with and all she did was follow the recommended dietary intake and she lost 50 pounds while pregnant. But she went from junk to healthy food, so it wasn't dieting. Her doctor was ok with this and the baby was fine. But do not do any dieting without the ok of the OB.
Staying active and eating healthy will keep you from putting excess weight on.

There is no possible way to lose weight while your pregnant......Until after you give birth.....and usually some woman have a hard time losing weight after as well. Your main concern should be if your unborn child is receiving the proper nutrients and is healthy rather than you losing weight and risking the baby's health.......
Good luck...........

It is not recommended. Talk to your doctor about maintaining weight if you're overweight. After pregnancy, breastfeeding is a good way to lose weight.

just dont eat like u are really eating for two. now really isnt the time to lose weight but you can control it. eat smaller portions more often throughout teh day. dont let those cravings get teh best of you. eat healthy now so youll bve used to it later in pregnancy. Stay active. i had 3 kids and am smaller than i was before any of them. dont be lazy and order 2 meals. thats just a myth taht we eat for two. how much do you really think teh baby eats? you just need to intake more calories. soem people eat everything in site. after you have teh baby make sure you breast feed eben if only for a little bit. i did it a month and a half with all my kids and it helped me lose teh baby weight and they got healthy milk.

Please be careful. Now is not the time to be vain and worry about your weight. I don't know if you should worry about losing weight as much as controlling your weight gain. So, plan to gain weight, just do it slowly. Walk more and eat more fruits and vegetables. If you deprive yourself or the child of nutrients, you will regret it for the rest of your life. What you want doesn't matter anymore, all that matter is the baby!

Well, I am going to guess that your doctor has not told you to do so. If he did he would have hooked you up with a nutrionist so that you could lose it safely because of the baby.
Don't be selfish. Worry about your figure AFTER your baby is born. In the meantime, concentrate on eating healthy food rich in nutrients for that child you are growing within yourself.

NONE!!! It is not good for the baby to lose weight while pregnant. Sorry they can't pull off our stores like we can. You will have to gain weight and then lose it after the baby comes. Good luck
