That's why we need PROOF, not CONSENSUS.
There are countless examples of where the consensus changed several times (e.g., what killed the dinosaurs) until finally the evidence was clear.
What will be required to meet the Kyoto standards, given a growing population, will make power three times as expensive your commute twice as expensive.
That's a big load to put on your average consumer who, if Gore et al are wrong, isn't harming anyone.
The latest argument - which is essentially a non-admission admission - is "what if we ARE wrong, won't it still be good to cut down on pollution?" But all other pollutants ARE being addressed, and if they are wrong about global warming than CO2 isn't a pollutant. The "go such on a tailpipe cons" argument is a non-sequitur - RICHARD NIXON CREATED THE EPA and there are strict emissions standards for automobiles driven in the US. They are made stricter every couple of years. Nobody's saying carbon monoxide and sulfur and lead aren't poisons - and that is why they've been dramatically reduced and will continue to be reduced.
Reducing the CO2 content would be much more expensive - a material burden to put on the average person - and that's why we say hold on, how about tangible PROOF.
Instead of questioning our motives, they should be out trying to find this proof.
But they don't.
Because they can't.

it is true that with technology we find newer and neater things that can change our minds on many of our old beliefs... heck.. in the late 1800's there was an asteroid (now classified as an asteroid) just past mars that was named a planet for many years... at the same time we used to think the world was flat...
now here's the deal.. with both of those... we know better now... we know for a fact what that asteroid is.. and only our classification.. our naming can change that... and we know for a fact that the Earth is round... there comes a point when you just can't deny something any longer.
what point of that technology are we at with Global Warming? only time can tell for sure... but we are certainly much further advanced than we were 30 years ago... and the big kicker is this... if we are wrong we don't hurt anyone.. in fact we improve our lives by creating less pollution and some new job markets with the new technologies... sounds like a win win situation to assume that we are right to me.

at that factor, there have been no astronomers, purely astrologers. Up until around 50 years in the past, in madrassars in some areas of the international, it became into nevertheless being taught that the sunlight revolved around the Earth, because it states interior the Q'ran. That text fabric would desire to be interpreted as offering a ethical foundation for dwelling, quite than an precise depiction of the universe. Archaeologists have disproved statements made interior the previous testomony of the bible (Torah), on which the Muslim, Christian, and Jewish faiths are based. And who believes that Jonah lived in a whale, or that a guy lived for 900 years? human beings in those days had no technology, because of the fact it purely originated interior the final 2 hundred years, approximately.

Global warming is a tough issue, as I would hate for us to invest billions in trying to halt the effects of global warming, only to find out we were not really the cause. But, on the other hand, if the scientists are right, then we are going to have some explaining to do to our children to tell them why we did not do something when we still had a chance too. I support cutting emissions where we can, but not getting hysterical about it.

I'm not even going to start talking about how I feel on the whole global warming SCARE TACTIC.
You know, the sad thing about this....all these groups are going to jump on the global warming bandwagon just because they think it's what the American public wants to hear from them. I just heard how vegans are saying cows create more global warming than all our SUV's, jets, etc... so if we'd all stop eating meat, we'd help the global warming cause. Seriously, where do people get these 'facts'?
Are people seriously delusional? And WHY do we believe everything we hear on the news? Most of it is nothing more than liberal bulls**t. Americans can be so DUMB

Can you provide a link to show "Thirty Years Ago, Respected Scientists Said 'There Was No Water On Mars'" or is this just wild conjecture to bad mouth global warming? Perhaps such a quote can be produced but as President Reagan so elequently said, "Trust but verify." This goes, too, for your claim.

Earnest...I've said this before...maybe you didn't see it.
The (GREAT) human race is nothing but a small parasite on the planet....look at it like fleas on a dog.
Earth is a living, breathing planet...who, incidentally, heals herself. When she's had enough....she will shake us off like a BAD case of fleas!
Now if someone can SHOW ME proof...real proof...not just someone's "Expert" opinion...then possibly there may be something to it.
In the mean time.....following a trail of corruption....
Oil....Politicians...Auto Makers..
All of the big three Auto Makers in the US have all their SUVs classified as "light trucks" which means they don't have the STRICT emissions standards to meet!
When people stop driving SUVs because it's "cool"....then we can start to talk about 'Global Warming'.
And answer me this.....Why, Why, Why.....does someone need a Hummer when they live in suburbia???

30 years ago scientist didn't have the high technology to accurately claim if there was ice on Mars. Times have changed indeed.
The water is in the form of ice, and that is exciting....for future space exploration.

30 years ago, respected "scientists" were warning of an impending ice age -- misrepresenting a natural cooling cycle as something sinister. sound familiar? today, respected "scientists" are trying to spread fear and dread of man-made global warming -- misrepresenting a natural warming cycle as something sinister.
as another poster said -- follow the money. many politician (mainly Gore) and "scientists" look to gain considerable wealth if everyone buys into this global warming propaganda.
