I like the Can-Am (formerly Bombardier) Outlander Max, which has a secondary seat that you can flip up or down easily. It also has a longer wheelbase for improved stability
with 2 passengers. I have the regular Outlander 400 and it is as fast as hell, and the suspension is great. It may cost a bit more than a Yamaha or Kawi, but it is a great ATV.

I have done EXTENSIVE research and I got a 2006 Polaris X2. In 06, 500cc was the only size. In 07, they now have 800cc. I'm a big fan of "bigger is better" but this thing had plenty of power even with 2 riders. I figure the 500cc gets better mileage anyways. I'd rather have more distance that power when I'm in the back woods.
Here's what sold me on the X2...
> The 2nd seat hides away when not in use.
> It's fuel injected. No retuning for elevation.
> It has TRUE all-wheel drive. If one wheel has traction, you still go. Check out the Polaris website for the video.
> It has the biggest gas tank at 4.6 gallons. Wife and I ran 5 hours, 49 miles and still had over half a tank left.
> 2 Riders, we never used low gear. Even slow up a steep hill.
> Independant suspension makes for a great ride.
> Switch to turn off AWD for tighter turns if necessary.

You could always try a Side-by-Side.

Although they aer larger than an ATV, you can EASILY put 2 people in it, or ride on your own.

The Yamaha Rhino is the best, but the Kawasaki Mule is also great for the "Work" use (and it also comes in a 4 seater)

Every one will have their own opinions about bikes, all the bikes are pretty good ,some are high maintenance, and costly parts ( polaris, aka,poo poos) DO NOT BUY A OFF SHORE BIKE, The can-ams are dependable , nice to ride , and lots of balls, I have a Honda and a Suzuki, and ride them hard no problems with either of them, ,Do not buy a two up bike it would be a waste of money, you can always buy a seat to go on the back, good luck on what ever you buy ......
